FM Alekhine Nouri tops Kamatyas chessfest

FIDE Master Alekhine Nouri emerged as champion in the 18th Edition Kamatyas FIDE Rated Rapid Open Chess Tournament Year-End Chess Festival 2025-Open Division on Saturday at the Bacoor Coliseum in Bacoor City, Cavite.

Nouri pocketed the P30,000 top purse and the trophy for ruling the Open tournament which drew over 180 woodpushers, organized by International Master Roderick Nava and National Master David Almirol Jr. of Kamatyas Chess Club.

He had a perfect record of 7.0 points in the seven-round Swiss system chess tournament.

The top player of the University of Santo Tomas chess team scored seven consecutive wins against Stephen Flores Casedo, King Xyan Beltran, Jayson Visca, Angele Tenshi Biete, Lee Roi Palma, Chester Neil Reyes and NM Phil Martin Casiguran.

“I would like to thank International Master Roderick Nava and National Master David Almirol Jr. of Kamatyas Chess Club for organizing and sponsoring a free registration and free food fide Rated rapid chess tournament," said Nouri, who hails from Escalante City, Negros Occidental.

International Master Ronald Dableo, one of the top players of Philippine Army Chess Team and the head coach of University of Santo Tomas Chess Team, meanwhile, placed second overall with 6.5 points and pocketed the runner-up purse of P15,000 and a trophy.

Third place honors went to Chester Neil Reyes who edged fellow six pointers NM Mar Aviel Carredo, FM Randy Segarra, IM Michael Concio Jr., and Zeus Alexis Paglinawan in the tie break.

Reyes earned P10,000 and a trophy, Carredo claimed fourth place and the P7,000 and a medal while Segarra landed at fifth place earned P5,000 and a medal.

Concio and Paglinawan wound up sixth and seventh place got P2,500 each and a medal.
The eight to 10th placers who got 5.5 points each were NM Phil Martin Casiguran, FM Roel Abelgas and Angele Tenshi Biete who also went home P2,500 and a medal.

Meanwhile, Rohanisah Buto, Sumer Justine Oncita and John Randall Peralta won the Women's, Juniors and Kiddies categories, respectively.

The popular year-end festival saw 500 competitors battling in three categories.-
