Hanoi Pool Open: Amoroto, Corteza and Feliciano Enter Last 16

21-year-old Filipino pool sensation Kyle Amoroto barged into the Hanoi Open Pool Championships last 16 together with veteran Lee Van Corteza and Michael Angelo Feliciano at the close of the knockout stages Friday night at the Hanoi Indoor Games Gymnasium in Hanoi City, Vietnam.

Amoroto who earlier beat all time great Shane Van Boening in the elimination round, exuded confidence in a dominant win over US veteran Oscar Dominguez 10-3. Corteza defeated compatriot Bernie Regalario, 10-5 while Feliciano edged fellow Pinoy Jeff de Luna, 10-7.

Four other Filipinos lost their Round of 32 matches: Johann Chua vowed to Jayson Shaw of Britain, 6-10; James Aranas lost to Ko Pin Yi of Taiwan, 4-10; Jefrey Roda succumbed to Fedor Gorst of Germany, 5-10; and Jeffrey Ignacio vowed to Alexander Kazakis of Greece, 6-10.

In other results, Ko Ping Chung, who two weeks ago won the US Open, defeated Francesco Candela of Italy, 10-4; World number one Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz of Spain blanked Germany's Ralf Souget, 10-0; Albin Ouschan of Austria came from behind to down Shane Van Boening of the United States; Sanjin Pehlivanoc of Bosnia defeated Naoyuki Oi of Japan, 10-7; Ahmad Taufiq of Brunei bested Germany's Thorsten Hohmann; Jan Van Lierop of Netherlands edged Fu Che Wei of Taiwan, 10-8; David Alcaide of Spain overpower Shane Wolford of the US, 10-2; Max Lechner of Austria beat Peru's Jonas Souto Camino, 10-8; and Aloysius Yapp defeats Niels Feijen of Netherlands.

In the last 16 pairings, Amoroto will face Yapp, Corteza takes on Alcaide and Feliciano tangles with Taufiq.

Jason Shaw vs Jan Van Lierop
Ko Pin Yi vs Fedor Gorst
