Davao bet John Gerard Acedo rules 9th edition Kamatyas FIDE Rated Rapid Chess Invitational Tournament

MANILA---John Gerard Acedo ruled via tiebreak the 9th edition Kamatyas FIDE Rated Rapid Chess Invitational Tournament slated at Ace Center Point in Koronadal City, South Cotabato on Saturday, June 17.

Acedo, tied for first-second places with Jayson Salubre of Panabo City, Davao del Norte with perfect 7.0 points apiece in the 15 minutes plus 5 minutes increment time control format event organized by International Master Roderick Nava and NM David Almirol of Kamatyas Chess Club in close cooperation with Mr. Joselito Dormitorio and Mr. Mark John Centillo. With the highest tiebreak points, Acedo took the title plus P30,000 top purse and a trophy while Salubre finished second and went home P10,000 and a trophy.

Acedo scored victories over Nick Danuel Pabroquez in the first round, Cipriano Magalso in the second round, Rafael Toredes in the third round, Jhonnel Balquin in the fourth round, Rhynan Arce in the fifth round, Aglipay Oberio in the sixth round and Dillon Intila in the seventh and final round.

“I am very happy because winning this tough Kamatyas event is one of my dreams. I dedicate this to my family, to my friends and to all my supporters," said Acedo, the pride of Davao City.
Salubre, on the other hand, defeated Francic Septian Dela Cruz, Garry Carcallas, Jade Anipan, Vic Michael Artieda, Japheth Aaron Caresosa, Mhyl Crese Wayne Patrimonio and Carl Zirez Sato, in order.

Rounding up the top 10 were John Christian Lesaca (3rd); Julius Silvederio (4th); Jezreel Lopez (5th); Carl Zirez Sato (6th); Erich Von Requilman Jr. (7th); Anthony Mosqueda; (8th) Melchor Arcenas Jr.; (9th) and Jhonnel Balquin (10th).

Fide Arbiter Byron Gabrentina Villar is the chief arbiter in the said chessfest which attracted 287 woodpushers.-Marlon Bernardino-
