PH chess whiz kid Michael Jan Stephen Inigo excited to play in GM Balinas chess tourney

MANILA, Philippines---Filipino chess wizard Michael Jan Stephen "Bonbon" Rosalem Inigo is expected to go high in the Negros Open Chess Championship dubbed as 2022 GM Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. Over The Board Chess Tournament slated from April 16 to 17 at Lamberto Macias Sport Complex in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
The 2 day event, hosted by Governor Roel Ragay Degamo, offers a top purse of P10,000 plus trophy, backed up by Dr. Jose "Joe" Carreon Balinas and Engr. Antonio "Tony" Carreon Balinas, both co-founding chairman of Bayanihan Chess Club in close cooperation with Barkadahan Para sa Bansa Party list nominee Dr. Ariel Potot, organized by Mr. Drigo Teves and Mr. Antonio Martin Olendo, co-team manager of PCAP's Negros Kingsmen.
The 14-year-old Inigo, a Grade 8 student of Bayawan City Science and Technology Education Center (BCSTEC) is fresh from winning the High School Category in Bayawan City recently.
"Congratulations Kuya Michael Jan Stephen Inigo for winning the High School Category in Bayawan City recently," said proud mother Jeanshen Rosalem, co-team manager of PCAP's Negros Kingsmen.
Bonbon is continuing his advanced one on one training by his Coach FM Nelson "Elo" Mariano III of Red Kings Kid in Manila as well as his other trainer AGM Voltaire Marc Paraguya and 13-time Philippine Open champion Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr.
Fondly called Bonbon in the chess world, he is also part of the Philippines Team B ranking 8th overall in the 15U Boys Open Division ASIAN Schools Chess Championships 2021 and for finishing as #28 out of 103 Chess Players in the entire Asian Region. He is also the 2nd highest scoring player in the whole Philippine Delegation.-Marlon Bernardino-
