Concio claims Laguna Chess King title, Marticio settles for 2nd overall

MANILA---International Master Michael Concio Jr. lived up to his high billing to rule the Gov. Ramil L. Hernandez Cup dubbed as 1st Laguna Chess King and Queen Chess Challenge held at the Laguna Sports Complex Basketball Gymnasium, Bubukal, Santa Cruz, Laguna last March 20, 2022.
Concio, a member of the Dasmarinas Chess Academy which saw action in the Eastern Asia Chess Championship 2019 in Tanauan, Batangas and where he earned his International Master title, finished undefeated with 6.5 points on 6 wins and one draw in the tournament organized by the Laguna Provincial Sports and Games Development Office in Partnership with Laguna Chess Association.
The championship was worth P4,000 and a trophy.
Jeremy Marticio of Cabuyao City shared second to sixth places with 6.0 points with Richie Jocson, Edwin Lorenzo, Voltaire Acero and Jhoemar Mendiogarin of Calamba City.
Marticio, whose stint in the tournament was being supported by Mayor Mel Gecolea, pocketed P3,000 and a trophy for his runner-up finish.
Jocson, Lorenzo, Acero and Mendiogarin got P2,000, P1,000, P800 and P500, respectively.
Rounding up to the top nine (9) finishers who receive P500 each after tallying 5.5 points each were Apollo Agapay, Allan Pelias and Jalbert Vilan of Cabuyao City.
Meanwhile, Jersey Marticio of Cabuyao City won the Top Lady award.-Marlon Bernardino-
