FM Mariano to banner Anvaya Cove executive chess (Sept. 28) By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Fri, 20 Sep 2019 FIDE MASTER (FM) Nelson "Elo" Mariano III will spearhead a strong cast clashing in the 2019 Grandmaster Rosendo Carreon Balinas Sr. Chess Cup dubbed as Anvaya Cove Beach and Nature Club National Executive Grand Prix Rapid Chess Championships scheduled on September 28 (Saturday) at the Anvaya Cove Beach and Nature Club, Molave and Narra function room in Morong, Bataan. Fondly called Elo in the chess circuit, younger brother of Grandmaster (GM) Nelson "Jet" Mariano II and Woman International Master (WIM) Cristine Rose Mariano-W?gman, looms as the player to beat in the six to seven round Swiss system format owing to his current winning the FIDE rated Lifecore Enterprises Open rapid chess championships held at the Bulwagang Panlalawigan in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro last September 15. "I hope to do well in this event," said Elo, head coach of Jose Rizal University chess team under the guidance of Athletic Director Mr. Paul Supan. The event, hosted by Anvaya Cove Beach and Nature Club through it's Recreation and Activity Manager Raymond M. Sandoval and Anvaya Cove Beach and Nature Club president Atty. Paul Elauria in cooperation with City Sports and Youth Development Office, Olongapo City, OIC, David B. Bayarong and CSWDO Jhun Pascua and sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), offers a top purse of P10,000 plus a trophy. Morong, Bataan mayor Cynthia G. Linao-Estanislao and Anvaya Cove Beach and Nature Club president Atty. Paul Elauria, both invited to do the traditional ceremonial moves that includes Dr. Jenny Mayor, Atty. Cliburn Anthony Orbe, Dr. Alfred Paez, Atty. Edmundo Legaspi, Martin "Binky" Gaticales, National Master (NM) Jose Efren Bagamasbad, Dioniver Medrano, James Infiesto of the Philippine Executive Chess Association and Louie Ramos in this rapid time control of 20 minutes plus 5 seconds delay mode per player to finish the game. Deadline of entries on September 26 (Thursday) according to Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA) president Dr. Jenny Mayor. Other vying in the event are New Zealand based Ceferino "Jun" Isaac Jr., China based Joel Pineda, UAE based Danilo Reyes, Franz Barreto and Edmond Andal, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia based Ryan Alcantara, Marion Ilagan, Niel Dumlao, Ernesto Manguni, Joseph Navarro, Leonard Raymond Reyes, Gefer Imbuido, Patrick Tamano Roxas, Andrew Sorima, Norman Jasper Montejo, Jimmy A. Ty, Jr. and Mark Anthony Yabut. Tournament registration fee for executive division is P1,350 with free lunch buffet while annual PECA membership fee is P1,000.
