MAGSAYO COMES BACK TO THE RING THIS TIME IN NATIVE BOHOL AGAINST THAI FOE UTHOK

PhilBoxing.com

Undefeated Filipino fighter Mark ?Magnifico? Magsayo will make a comeback fight in his hometown in Tagbilaran City, Bohol on August 31, after a two-year inactivity from the sport he loves - boxing.

Fighting at the main event of the showdown dubbed as ?Pride of Bohol? at the Bohol Wisdom Gymnasium, Magsayo, with an immaculate record of 19-0 with 14 KOs, will face Thai veteran fighter Panya Uthok for the vacant WBC Asia featherweight title and IBF Pan Pacific featherweight title.

The 24-year old Magsayo will fight before his kababayans in Tagbilaran for the first time since facing Japan's Shota Hayashi and winning by unanimous decision to retain his WBO international featherweight title in November 2017. He was also a former IBF youth featherweight champion.

Magsayo said he is very happy to be given the chance to fight once again in Tagbilaran. He is confident of the support of his town mates will result in a victory. The event is the first venture of Vladimir Boxing Promotions in the country.

He promised to give his best for this fight for he has been training religiously in the past months. During his last fight in Bohol, Magsayo had to work extra hard against Hayashi, who made a gallant stand for 12 rounds before the Filipino was able to win by unanimous decision.

After that bout with Hayashi in Bohol, Magsayo was not able to fight for almost two years because of a contractual problem with his former stable ALA Promotions.

Finally, he was able to make a ring return last April this time fighting under Vladimir Boxing Promotions, stopping Indonesia's Erick Deztroyer in the fourth round in Singapore.

Magsayo said after he fought last April he rested for only two weeks then continuously trained again. That?s the reason why he doesn't feel like losing his confidence in training and his perseverance is still in him. He added he is happy to get over what had happened in the last two years and now he has a fresh start and more motivated to train.

He expects another tough fight from Uthok (53-6, with 35 KOs) because the Thai likes to get inside and mix it up. His team are working on the Boholano's stamina to keep him in condition for the full 12 rounds. He said he must be ready this time because it is for a championship.

Panya Uthok is also known as "Pungluang Sor Singyu Onesong" will turn 30 on September 8. He was born in Uthai Thani, Thailand as is now fighting out of the capital city of Bangkok.

The Thai orthodox fighter has a record of 3-3 (2 KOs) in world title fights He has a 0-3 record against former or current world titlists as he lost to Paulus Ambunda, Tomoki Kameda, and Marlon Tapales. His record is 1-5 (1 KO) in fights outside his native Thailand.

Uthok was once the WBO world bantamweight champion. He has held the WBO international bantamweight title, the interim WBO Oriental bantamweight title, the WBO Asia Pacific youth bantamweight title, and the WBC youth world bantamweight title and these were only regional and minor titles.

The Thai opponent only had 4 fights in 3 years. But Magsayo?s coach Rissan Muelas considers Uthok as the perfect ?acid test? for his boxer?s aspirations to continue rising to the top of the world.
