Denver Cuello, Sonny Boy Jaro Stop Indonesian Foes; Chay Rivas wins GAB Belt Saturday in Angono, Rizal

PhilBoxing.com

ANGONO, Philippines -- Former WBC Silver Champion "The Excitement" Denver Cuello and former WBC World Champion Sonny Boy Jaro are back in combat mode, scoring stoppage wins over Indonesian foes Saturday, March 8 at Angono Stadium in Rizal Province, Philippines, 30 Km east of the Philippine's Capital, Manila.

In the main event, popular Denver Cuello (37-5-6, 24 KO's), battling again after a nearly 4-year absence, needed only two rounds of sweating to overpowered Indonesian journeyman Jack Amisa (21-46-2, 14 KO's) to capture the vacant Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) Bantamweight Belt. The third man in charge was Oliver Garcia of Sampaloc, Metro Manila.

Cuello, 32, looked fine against his veteran opponent, though he still needs much more sweating to do to climb back up onto his division's upper echelons.

Sonny Boy Jaro returns with a win over Indonesian Boido Simanjuntak.

In the co-main feature, former WBC flyweight world champion Sonny Boy Jaro (46-14-5, 31 KO's), weighing 123 pounds stalked and stopped taller Boido Simanjuntak of Indonesia for a round four TKO win. The referee was Jerrold Tomeldan of Para?aque, Metro Manila.

Sonny Boy Jaro, 36, was the far superior boxer displaying his trademark moves with combined attacks to the head and body to dismantle his veteran opponent. Now a free agent, Sonny Boy Jaro wants to press forward his fighting career.

Ardin Diale stopped Richard Rosales.

Plus, Highland Boxing super flyweight Ardin Diale (35-12-4, 17 KO's) born in Malungon, Sarangani Province, scored a stoppage win over tough Boholano Richard Rosales (13-9-2, 7 KO's) when Rosales did not come out for action in round four due to a severe, deep cut over his left eye, a product of a non-intentional clash of heads.

Natuplag wins.

In a lightweight rumble, undefeated hard-hitting Highland Boxing fighter KJ "The Ipugo" Natuplag (8-0-1, 7 KO's) of Cabarroguis in Quirino Province, looked sharped and impressive rocking out with the shorter, though more-experienced Robert "Battlin' Bert" Udtohan (24-6-3, 15 KO's) of Digos City, Davao del Sur. The one big blow that ended Udtohan's menace was a straight right hand. Udtohan did not see the punch coming. KJ Natuplag still has much boxing to learn, though his fighting career advances upwards at a good pace. The third man was Nowel Haduca of Quezon City.

EXCITING WOMEN'S BOXING

In the most exciting fight of the evening, cute local warrior "Chay" Carleans Rivas (7-6-4, 0 KO's) of Angono, Rizal Province, scored a six round unanimous decision win over 24-year-old Floryvic Montero (4-7, 2 KO's) of Angeles City, Pampanga, to claim the vacant GAB Philippines Female Flyweight Championship.

Carleans Rivas captures the vacant Philippine Females Flyweight title.

It's the second time that Rivas decisions Monterio. The two women already fought an entertaining action battle in Makati back in 2017, and this time the excitement was double as the fighting girls traded non-stop from the get-go. The third man in charge was Sammy Bernabe of Cavite.

Jessebelle Pagaduan ravaged D Striker Alico in two chapters

In more girls action, Highland boxer Jessebelle Pagaduan (11-1, 4 KO's), back in the ring after her win by points last July in Bangkok, Thailand, destroyed in just two chapter Cucoy Elorde's fighter Aisah "D' Striker" Alico (7-11, 5 KO's) of The City of Golden Friendship, Cagayan de Oro. Jessebelle was the stronger, heavier woman dictating the tempo of the battle till she got the slim Alico down and out.

MORE HIGHLAND BOXING ACTION FIGHTS

Furthermore, tough Highland boxing 115-pounder Romeo Tenorio (5-3-2, 3 KO's) of Sarangani Province won a unanimous decision over Geboi Mansalayao of Tarlac. Tenorio was the busier warrior throughout the six-stanza battle, leading actions from the first second, never allowing Geboi to launch a sustained attack. The ref was Nowel Haduca.

Also, 20-year-old Highland Boxing lightweight MJ "Young Gun" from the rich and fertile Rice Terraces of mountainous Ifugao Province and strong-looking Marlon "Tyson" Bacalando (0-2-3, 0 KO's) of Makati fought to a 4-round majority decision draw.

Aggressiveness earned him the first two rounds. But he tired, giving way to the taller, fresher to dominate the actions of the final two rounds. That's why two judges voted 58-58. Both men registered 135 pounds, the for their lightweight clash. The third man in charge was international referee Jerrold Tomeldan.

Plus, southpaw journeyman Edison Berwela (17-41-8, 5 KO's) of Muntinlupa, Metro Manila, stopped Diosdado "Dado" Cabintoy (15-10-2, 8 KO's) of Para?aque City as Cabintoy did not come out to the sound of the eighth chapter. Cabintoy was the gladiator leading on the scorecards. He was not cut nor invisibly trouble, yet, he opted to forget about this war and go home. Official result is TKO in round 7. The referee was former fighter Bernabe.

In an exciting supporting bout in the middleweight division, southpaw Ador Torres (2-1-1, 0 KO's) of La Trinidad, Benguet Province, dropped and more experienced hard-swinging Filipino-Indian "Sher-e-Punjab" (Punjabi Lion) Prabhjot Singh (7-4-1, 7 KO's) en route to a 6-stanza majority decision win. Both men traded throughout the clash, but it was Torres the one coming on top.

GAB Supervisors are Felix "Rex" Flores and Raphael "Ralph" Dyoknos. GAB Chairman Baham Mitra was in attendance, as well as Thai Boxing patron Naris Singwancha. Also enjoying the action was veteran matchmaker Narong Hengtrakul of Thailand.

Supervisor for the Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) was Surapote Phongjiavanich of Thailand.

Standout boxers Jhonriel Casimero and Mark Magsayo were in Angono watching the event.

Return of Champions Friday, March 8 at Agono Stadium ( walk from SM Angono) was an 11-bout production of award-winning promoters Brico Santig of Highland Boxing Team and Darwin Miller A. Depay, director of DMAD Boxing Promotions, in cooperation with the Naris Singwancha Foundation.
