NOTHING TO FEAR OF PACQUIAO'S EYE INJURY

PhilBoxing.com

WBA welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao's injury in his left eye is just a minor laceration after his eyeball was scratched by Broner's glove. Pacquiao assured everyone that his eye injury was not serious, adding that it will heal after three to four days.

"It's okay, it's just what my eyes are watering. It's a scratch to my eyeball ... I've been through this with the right [eye]. Now it's on the left," Pacquiao told GMA.

Pacquiao was feared to suffer a detached retina which could end his legendary career. He was reported to be complaining of pain and blurred vision in his left eye on Sunday morning. Sugar Ray Leonard ended his colorful career because of a detached eye retina.

"There's no clutter, it's really a scratch, it's just a bit of a medicine [needed]... It's okay, God is good, we just have to rest, it's easy to heal the scratch in the eyeball." Pacquiao said he also suffered a similar minor injury on his right eye when training for his fight with Jeff Horn in July 2017.

About a Mayweather rematch, he stated: ?The Manny Pacquiao journey will still continue. At the age of 40 I can still give my best. If he wants to come out of retirement, then announce it and challenge me."

* * *

?I?m a champion and I don?t pick any opponent,? said Pacquiao. "My message is I?m still active and if he goes back to the ring and wants to challenge me, I?m a champion.?

Police reported a break-in at Pacquiao?s home in Los Angeles when they noticed the front door open Saturday night. They responded and found the house ransacked. Pacquiao has a vault in the residence with thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and several cash. It was still unproven if something had been burgled from the mansion, which was left deserted when the Pacquiao entourage travelled to Las Vegas last Monday.

Marcus Browne (23-0, 16 KOs) of Staten Island, New York City defeated a blood stained Badou Jack (22-2-3, 13 KOs) of Stockholm, Sweden by an upset unanimous decision to wrest the vacant interim WBA light heavyweight title. The judges' scores were 119-108, 117-110, 116-111.

Jack agonized from a ghastly five-inch cut in his forehead resulting from an accidental head butt in the seventh round of their match. Browne, a former 2012 London Olympian said the head butt in anyway did not influence the result of the fight. The former two-division champion Jack, a Las Vegas resident, was taken to the hospital right after the fight. He was all praises for Browne.

"I would like to thank all of the fans for your support! The cut was a nasty one, but I?m fine now, alhamdulillah. Congrats to Marcus Browne who fought a great fight," Jack stated. "Regardless of the cut he was the better man tonight. I am a warrior and will never quit, but didn?t realise the severity of the gash."

Jhack Tepora was stripped of his interim World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight title and lost the $50,000 purse for being overweight by 5.5 pounds over the 126-lb featherweight limit for his title defense against Mexican Hugo Ruiz in the Pacquiao-Broner undercard. It could have been the biggest fight of his career and a great opportunity to shine on U.S. soil.

He was replaced by another Mexican Alberto Guevarra who easily beaten by Ruiz via a 100-89, 99-90, 99-90 unanimous decision in a 10-round non-title fight which was the pay-per-view opener of the Pacquiao-Broner showdown.

It was a big disappointment for Tepora, who was a rising pro boxer when he won by a technical knockout over Edivaldo Ortega of Mexico in the undercard of the Pacquiao-Lucas Matthysse title fight last year in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to grab the interim WBA featherweight crown.
