FILIPINO-AMERICAN COMMUNITY IN LOS ANGELES TO HOLD ANCAJAS?SULTAN ?MEET AND GREET? By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Thu, 17 May 2018 It is increasingly getting apparent that there will be no Top Rank Promotions ?Media Day? planned in Los Angeles to hype the Jerwin Ancajas-Jonas Sultan championship fight on May 26th at Fresno, California. Therefore a creative Filipino from the local community took the initiative and made the move to introduce the two fighters not only to the local media but to the Filipino community as well. ?It?s some sort of a ?Meet and Greet? cum media day,? stated Jayson 'JhayOh' Otamias of Torrance, California. ?Besides, it's such a historic fight that all Filipinos must be informed about it,? he added. Otamias is best known in the community as a persistent organizer, a budding boxing photographer and a big boxing fan. Many of his excellent photographs are seen on PhilBoxing.com the largest boxing portal in the world and on Spin.com while his videos are seen on GMA News in the Philippines. The event that Otamias is organizing takes place on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Filipino American Community Cultural Center at 1740 Temple Street at the Historic Filipino Town just west of Downtown Los Angeles. It will promptly start at 10:00 AM. The officials at the Filipino American Cultural Center are ?all in? on the event. In fact, the President, Mr. Fernandico Gonong has assured Otamias that they will provide the Community Hall free of charge and on top of that, they will present Commemorative Plaques to both Ancajas and Sultan. He even wrote a letter to Top Rank?s Lee Samuels informing him of the event and inviting him to attend as well. ?The Filipino American Community, aside from being so excited to see the outcome of an expected action-packed battle, takes pride and honor for the achievements of these Filipino fighters. We would like to express our gratitude to Jerwin Ancajas and Jonas Sultan by honoring them with well-deserved memorable plaques. And we will confer the said plaques at our own place at the heart of the City of Los Angeles- the Filipino Cultural Center,? stated part of the letter of Gonong to Lee Samuels of Top Rank. Wouldn?t it be one hell of an event if Bob Arum will be there as well to show his love for the Filipino community? ?Time wise, we are cutting this too close. but we are still hoping that we will get a huge turn out as we plan to flood the social media starting tonight to announce it to the community,? stated Otamias. ?But we didn?t have a choice as Ancajas just came in yesterday and Sean Gibbons won?t be arriving until tonight,? he added. Otamias supplied some photos to top Filipino painter, Jun Aquino to design a poster for the event. True enough Aquino being the artist that he, is came up with a fantastic design that can easily become a collector?s item. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ed de la Vega, DDS. |
