The 28-year-old Joven, distant relative of former world no. 1 Francisco "Django" Bustamante, won the opening lag and took a 4-0 commanding lead before the Taiwanese prodigy closed the match at 4-3 winning the next three racks. However, the former Pinoy house pro in the Middle East clustered three consecutive racks for a 7-3 lead. Joven had a chance to put the lead at 8-3 count but suffered his fourth unforced error that gave Wu a chance to slice the lead at 7-4 before the latter tied the match at 7-all. "Sobrang hirap ang dinaanan ko," said Joven, the 2007 World 8-ball semi-finalist in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates last February.
