Team Philippines 2-4 at the End of Day Three
By J.V. Tuazon, DPT aka 'The Fight Doc' PhilBoxing.com Sun, 28 Oct 2007
CHICAGO -- In the third fight of the day for Team Philippines during the World Boxing Championships, Silforbo Lopez opened up with a very cautious 1st round but landed enough straight rights to take the round 3-2 over Velibor Vidic of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Round two saw Vidic gain confidence and momentum as he landed flush overhand rights on the face of Lopez. The score after round two was 10-5 in favor of the Bosnian. Round three was much of the same as the Bosnian let go with his hands more freely, showing his strength advantage over the lankier Lopez. Round three scores were 16-7 for Vidic.
Round four had the Bosnian running with the lead and Lopez aggressively attacking. Vidic got on the bike and pedaled around the ring to hold on to his lead.
In doing so, Vidic successfully got a points win with a 19-9 margin over Philippine 69 kg welterweight Lopez.
Next scheduled fight will be held on Saturday as flyweight Violito Payla takes on Khalid Said of England.
