HORN HAS SLIM CHANCE AGAINST CRAWFORD SAYS SHERIDAN; JUAREZ HITS REFEREE FOR KO LOSS By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Wed, 10 Jan 2018  Boxing commentator Bob Sheridan thinks WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn (18-0-1, 12 KOs) has a slim chance to upset Terence Crawford (32-0, 23 KOs) in the event they face each other in the ring. However, the Hall of Famer admits the likelihood of the reversal is very remote. The World Boxing Organization has mandated Crawford as the challenger when the undefeated former undisputed light welterweight titlist announced that he was moving up to 147-pounds. * * * "I give him a chance because Horn is an extraordinary athlete, but I tell you, to move up to fight one of the best fighters in the world today, that?s a real tough road for Jeff Horn. From the money aspect of it, if Horn can make a good showing and even if he loses a close decision, he can get the rematch back in Australia if they can get Crawford in the country and that means a good pay day for Jeff, which is what professional boxing is all about," Sheridan told On The Ropes Boxing Radio. * * * Sheridan appreciates Crawford so much that he does not think Horn can score an upset until he sees it happening. "In terms of beating Crawford, I got to see Jeff beat him before I believe it because Crawford amazes me as much as Lomachenko does. It was one of these situations where Top Rank was very smart in signing Jeff Horn because they immediately get the Pacquiao fight," Sheridan said. * * * Sheridan believes that Jeff Horn could be in a hurry of facing a great fighter such as Crawford but cautions if ever the Aussie can cause a reversal, then he is destined for greatness. "In no way do they think Horn can upset Terence Crawford, but it was an organized bit of great promoting to get a piece of Jeff Horn so that they could get Crawford his first fight at 147lbs. We?ll find out just how good Jeff Horn is in a hurry. If Horn ever upset Crawford, then he?s on the map forever." * * * Mexican fighter Cesar Juarez is enraged with referee Tony Weeks for stopping his fight with Isaac Dogboe on Saturday night in Accra, Ghana. Juarez believes he was foiled in his attempt to win the World Boxing Organization's interim super bantamweight title in his fight against Ghanaian Dogboe. Juarez was floored in the second round and then went down the canvas again in the fifth. Just after the second knockdown, Weeks waved off the contest and Dogboe won the interim championship and a mandatory challenge to the title held by WBO champion Jessie Magdaleno. Juarez said Weeks did not count him after the second knockdown, claiming the referee acted unfairly and the Mexican boxer is considering to file a protest with the WBO before long. * * * "Actually I feel very angry. The fight was already mine, Dogboe did not beat me. The one who robbed me and beat me was Tony. He is a professional referee but today there was an act on his part with little professional ethics," Juarez told ESPN Deportes. "He had to give me the count. I looked good, he dropped me in the second round and that punch was a lot worse, it was harder than the punch in the fifth. But you know me, they always drop me and I always get up to win." * * * "The fight was badly stopped, I got up like a spring because the punch didn't put me in a bad condition. He caught me and it was badly stopped. That's why I got up quickly, because I immediately recovered," added Juarez. He said they know his ability and always get up to win. He further stated that it happened to him with Albert Pagara and with Nonito Donaire. "In all my fights they drop me and I always get up to win, and besides that I was already dominating Isaac Dogboe." * * * Juarez admitted that Dogboe connected him hard in the second, but in the third and fourth rounds, the fifth round, he felt that he was dominating his foe from Ghana. "He was not as strong, I did not feel him having the same power, I felt that I was going to knock him out because he was already very tired. I was fine, and as the rounds progressed I felt more loose and stronger." * * * Juarez would really like to get a protest because he sees the referee's performance was bad. "He did not ask me if I felt good, I asked him why, 'why are you stop it', I told him I was fine, I said 'I'm good', I'm well, and the truth is I got very angry, it was a moment that filled me with anger because I felt strong enough to continue," concluded Juarez. * * * Trainer Freddie Roach thinks his boxer Scott Quigg will win in the showdown with WBO featherweight titlist Oscar Valdez this coming March 10. Roach clarified that he didn't think much of Valdez and expected him lose because the Mexican boxer "isn't that good." But Valdez's trainer Manuel Robles refuted Roach acusing him of playing mind games. * * * "You know what, Freddie likes to play his mind games. Freddie likes to get under your skin with opponents and coaches and what not. So it's up to the individual on the other side to handle it. I don't think anything of it. At the end of the day Freddie's not the one stepping in the ring - it's Oscar. So may the best man win." This fight is scheduled to take place at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. * * * "I've been studying Scott Quigg quite a bit and of course we got a chance to spar with Scott, all the respect to Scott, he's a gentleman outside the ring but he's a warrior inside the ring," Robles added. "So we've got to come in with a good game-plan and we have to be ready for the challenge." Quigg and Valdez previously were sparring partners when the British boxer was preparing to fight Viorel Simion of Romania. * * * There is only one loss on Quiqq's career record, and it was handed by Carl Frampton in February 2016, during a WBA and IBF super bantamweight unification bout by split decision. Quigg then hired the services of Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Los Angeles and won three fights in a row with the legendary trainer.
