PACQUIAO-BARRERA PPV BUYS HIT 350,000

PhilBoxing.com

Last Sunday's "Will to Win" featuring the rematch between superstars Manny Pacquiao and Marco Antonio Barrera did well on pay-per-view, raking in 350,000 buys worldwide, including 3,800 in San Antonio Texas alone.

According to co-promoter Bob Arum, in an interview with San Antonio Express News' John Whisler, the fight also generated $3 Million at the gates of the Mandalay Bay Events Center, where 10,112 spectators came to watch Pacquiao in a masterful repeat over Barrera, who announced his retirement soon after the fight.

Arum also hinted that he is considering bringing the Filipino boxing sensation back to San Antonio possibly in March against a soon-to-be-announced opponent.

It would be Pacquiao's third appearance in San Antonio if the plan pushes through following his stints against Jorge Solis last April and the first Barrera bout in 2003.

Among those who are lining up to be Pacquiao's next opponent are WBA/WBO/IBF lightweight champ Juan Diaz, WBC lightweight champ David Diaz, WBO superfeatherweight champ Joan Guzman, WBA superfeatherweight champ Edwin Valero and even WBA featherweight champ Chris John of Indonesia and WBO interim lightweight champ Michael Katsidis.

"Everybody just wants to have a piece of Pacquiao nowadays. Even unknown fighters are now calling out the Pacman. This is a phenomenon in itself," said Cebuano promoter Rex 'Wakee' Salud, a close Pacquiao associate whose RWS Gym was used by the Filipino icon in his build up for the Barrera rematch.

At the victory party hosted by the Cebu City government on Sunday evening at the Parklane Hotel in Cebu, Pacquiao indicated that he has conferred with his trainer Freddie Roach and they both agreed that for his next fight, Cebu is still the leading candidate as his training venue.

"We had a great training camp in Cebu for the Barrera fight, and I would like to thank all the Cebuanos for their love and support," Pacquiao told his fans and local leaders at the victory party headed by Councilor Jack Jakosalem who stood in behalf of Mayor Tomas Osmena.

Fans had a grand time posing for photographs with both Pacquiao and popular Governor Chavit Singson, whose private plane flew Team Pacquiao to Cebu last Sunday.

Both Pacquiao and Roach have indicated their interest in buying a house and a condominium unit here in Cebu.
