PALICTE KNOCKS OUT RODRIGUEZ, RETAINS NABF BELT By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sat, 09 Dec 2017 Round Rock, Texas:- Aston Palicte of Bago City, Negros Occidental as he promised, left everything on the canvas tonight at the Round Rock Arena, a nice multi-event venue in this bedroom community just outside the City of Austin and in the process kept his NABF Super Flyweight title. Palicted stopped Rodriguez via a 5th round TKO. Time 2:14. Palicte?s win will now generate more movement from the Roy Jones Jr Promotion. A fight with Rex Tso, the No. 1 contender for Naoya Inoue?s WBO Super Flyweight belt will now be the fight on front seat and center as Palicte sits as No. 2 contender for Inoue?s belt. An ?eliminator? between Tso and Palicte will be a great fight indeed. Without doubt, Jason Soong, the manager of Palicte will be ?burning the wires? so to speak as he negotiates with the Roy Jones, Jr folks that actually run the day to day operations of the up and coming promotional outfit. Soong will sure push these folks to tie up a fight with either Tso or Inoue. Palicte?s actual height, weight and reach advantages meant a great deal in his victory. Rodriguez, a typical ?Mexican slugger? came straight forward to Palicte the whole night disregarding perhaps the counter punches coming his way as he searched for ways to negate the advantages of Palicte. But in doing so, Palicte, following Rodel Mayol?s instructions, kept on sticking and landing his jobs followed by his straight rights, right hooks and uppercuts. That went on all night scoring points for the champion. Then came the fateful right upper cut right on the button followed by a straight that hit the gloves but still carried a lot of power. Just about the only time Rodriguez had a ?highlight reel performance? was in round 4 when when he was able to connect a telling blow that got the attention of Palicte. The rest of the rounds were all about Palicte imposing his will against the smaller Rodriguez. When Rodriguez dropped at his own corner, he took a look at his coach seemingly saying ?I can take anymore of this?. But he stood up albeit wobbly leading the referee to wave off the fight.
