PACQUIAO OPENS BOXING ACADEMY IN CHINA By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Sun, 03 Dec 2017 BEIJING ? In what Chinese officials described as a major milestone in China's boxing history, Philippine senator and boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has officially launched the Manny Pacquiao International Boxing Academy in China during a formal ceremony at the Daioyutai Hotel here Saturday which could potentially change the boxing landscape in this economic powerhouse nation. The ceremony, attended by Chinese dignitaries, also saw Pacquiao signed a comprehensive agreement with his Chinese partner Vincent Zhou of Dancing Sports that promised to bring boxing in China to the highest level as well as forging of a closer tie between China and the Philippines which is a major thrust of Chinese president Xi Jingpin's Belt and Road program that aims to connect and develop Asian and European countries. Pacquiao, who is in Beijing to attend the Chinese Communist Party's 'World Political Parties Dialogue' which was attended by representatives from more than two hundred countries, expressed deep admiration to President Xi during his speech at the signing ceremony whom he described as ?visionary and brilliant?. It is not difficult to see that the signing of this comprehensive agreement is exactly the implementation of the two top leadership initiatives of China and an important action to promote cooperation between China and the Philippines.? Vincent Zhou, for his part, has outlined four steps to make China a boxing powerhouse. These are 1) professionalize 2) popularize 3) industrialize and 4) internationalize. With these yardsticks, Zhou and Pacquiao will open boxing academies all over China; put up the best boxing equipment in its gyms; provide high level training by assigning highly qualified boxing trainers; by capitalizing on Pacquiao's popularity, widely promote the boxing academy to attract more Chinese youths to go into boxing; and to schedule regular boxing events all over China to eventually produce elite Chinese boxers.
