PhilBoxing?s Jhay Otamias Wins Pamana Nang Lahi Photo Contest By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sun, 29 Oct 2017 Jason ?JhayO? Otamias, a boxing photo enthusiast from Torrance, CA was declared the winner of the Photo of the Year Contest at the just concluded Pamana ng Lahi, a month-long art and photography exposition at the Filipino Cultural Center in the Historic FilipinoTown located along Temple Street near downtown in Los Angeles. The exposition was opened a month ago by former California Assemblyman Ray Haynes, Philippine columnist, Ramon ?Mon? Tulfo and Bernie Targa-Ganon, president of Philippine Institute of Language, Arts and Culture (PILAC) Hundreds of Filipino Americans and friends of the Filipino community have seen and enjoyed the exhibits that included work and masterpieces from Filipino artists including Rey Garcia Zipagan, Sal Budhz G Floriano, Parts Bagani, Vics Magsaysay, Luz Balbin-Spanks, Bienvenido Sibug, Magoo Valencia and Johnny Esj Otilano. A great majority of Otamias? work is seen on Philboxing, the largest boxing portal outside of the USA. He also contributes to the GMA network through Chino Trinidad and to Rappler.com and Spin.com Otamias winning photo depicts the victorious Filipino Boxing legend, Manny Pacquiao with his arms in victory after beating Mexican-American Jesse Vargas at a fight billed as ?The Legend/The Champ? a boxing match for the WBO welterweight championship. The event took place on November 5, 2016 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.?Pacquiao?won the?fight?by unanimous decision and took the WBO welterweight title. Judging for the photo contest was based on the following: Relevance/importance to the Filipino American community Composition, display of photographic skills Impact on viewers Less use or absence of technological enhancement Judges included among others, Master photographer Dexter Grey, a multi-awardee International photographer from China, Mr. Cao Yong, Filipino professional photographer Romeo Balboa Cesar Angeles, the Public Information Officer of the Philippine Consulate and Fernandico Gonong, President of the Filipino American Community of Los Angeles For his great win, Otamias was awarded a nice glass plaque and fat check. ?This win is not only about me,? Otamias stated to this writer soon after he received his award. ?It is also about our Philboxing US-based photography team and the PhilBoxing management who trusted my work and used it for many boxing stories they put up,? he added.
