DANA WHITE SAYS MCGREGOR WILL KNOCK MAYWEATHER OUT By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Sat, 26 Aug 2017 UFC president Dana White said that the Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor is under boxing rules, but this is going to be a fight. "Floyd is the master of knowing what comes next and he?s the best defensive fighter. Those aren?t the same patterns that are going to come from Conor McGregor. It?s going to be completely different," said White. * * * He added Conor is on 29-year-old legs and Floyd?s on almost 41-year-old legs, and anybody who?s been 41 knows what that?s like. White is very optimistic of a McGregor victory. "Conor is the bigger, stronger man who will apply pressure, hit him with hard punches, he will eventually catch him and he will knock him out.? * * * Floyd Mayweather Sr. expects his son to wrest his 50th professional win easily. He predicts Floyd Jr. to target McGregor to the body, floor him down and then knock him out inside the distance. Floyd Jr., considered as one of the best fighters in boxing history, is a heavy favorite to win the fight. * * * "Even I could knock him out. After my son knocks him out on Saturday I'll be next. Floyd is ready, if age will affect him. We do not know, but he's always good, he's going to have a dominant performance. McGregor does not deserve to be in the ring with my son," Mayweather Sr. was quoted by boxingscene.com. * * * Rocky Marciano's son, Rocky Marciano Jr. suggests that the Mayweather-McGregor bout should be considered as an exhibition match and not as a fully sanctioned boxing bout. ?No matter what happens, I don?t think it should go towards Mayweather?s professional career record, win or lose," Marciano Jr. told USA Today. ?This fight to me isn?t a true boxing match. It?s not a fight that I?m interested in. I see the interest in it, but I don?t think it?ll be an interesting fight." * * * Mayweather is set to break Marciano's 49-0 record after the McGregor encounter. Marciano won by knockout in 43 of his 49 bouts (87.8% KO rate) in his professional career between 1947 and 1955. He died in 1969 in a tragic plane crash on the eve of his 46th birthday. * * * Floyd Mayweather said he wants to entertain everybody and to give them a good show. After the Pacquiao fight he fees like everybody deserves excitement, a lot more excitement. "Even with the Pacquiao fight, like I said before, no matter what way any situation goes, they always point the finger at me. This was a guy that throws a thousand punches, was the fighter of the decade." * * * He said he hit Pacquiao with solid punches. "From the beginning, with the Pacquiao fight, if you go back and look at the first round, the first shot I hit him with, he felt the strength was totally different." The so-called Fght of the Century was heavily criticized for the lack of action and excitement and Mayweather was lambasted for running away from Pacquiao during the record-shattering match. * * * Both Mayweather and McGregor stayed relaxed and confident just days from their highly controversial match. They will meet under boxing rules in a scheduled 12-round fight that matches a UFC mixed martial arts champion who never had a professional boxing experience against the most defensive boxer and pound-pound-king of his time. McGregor said it was just another stage in his fighting career, and hit Mayweather for saying he hopes the referee does his job and doesn't allow McGregor to try any MMA moves against him. * * * Floyd keeps his physique as fit as ever and declares he is taking the fight seriously. He attacked Conor of being overweight and having difficulty of getting to the weight limit which the UFC MMA champ denied. But Mayweather said he will be entertaining guests every night leading to the fight at his new strip club just off the Las Vegas Strip. "I'll be at the Girl Collection every day this week," he said. "Every day." * * * Eumir Marcial defeated Thai Pathomsak Kuttiya for his second straight gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games, this time in the middleweight division in the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games 2017. Marcial was also the winner in the welterweight division in the 2015 Singapore Games. * * * Light heavyweight John Marvin gave the second gold medal for the Philippines with a stoppage of Malaysian Adli Hapidz Bin Mohd Fauzi. The referee stopped the bout just 21 seconds in the first round with Marvin pummeling the hometown hero. The other finalist, Mario Fernandez, just settled for the silver medal in the bantamweight division after losing to Chatchai Butdee of Indonesia who bagged the gold. * * * Earlier, other Filipino boxers were not as lucky. Charly Suarez and Ian Clark Bautista earlier lost by decision to their Thai opponents in the semifinals. Carlo Paalam had a controversial quarterfinal loss to host Malaysian Muhamad Redzuan. Suarez lost a decision to fellow 2016 Olympian Wuttichai Masuk while Bautista lost a decision to Tanes Ongjunta and both settled for the bronze medal. * * * The two golds in Kuala Lumpur were a far cry from the five gold medals won by the Philippine boxers at the 2015 SEA Games. Also there were no women's events this time thus the lost opportunity to win additional gold in the ladies' boxing. Josie Gabuco won the gold in the 2015 Singapore SEAG together with Bautista, Fernandez, Marcial and Junnel Cantancio. * * * Gilas Pilipinas got another pulsating finish to beat Singapore, 68-60, to advance to the gold-medal match in the 29th SEA Games basketball tournament. Gilas was leading by only five points before Christian Standhardinger and Mike Tolomia came to the rescue in the last five minutes of play. The fourth straight win advances the Philippines to the final against the winner of the other semifinal game between Indonesia and Thailand.
