PACQUIAO-HORN REMATCH IN THE MAKING

PhilBoxing.com

?I really want to have a rematch against Horn,? Manny Pacquiao told the Manila Times. ?Although I haven?t formally talked with them yet, there is a rematch clause in our contract and there is a possibility I am going to exercise that." Pacquiao added that he is planning to bring the fight to the Philippines or elsewhere other than Australia. ?We will do our best to bring the fight here in the Philippines as we look also for sponsors. If not here, we are considering to bring the fight to Dubai or possibly in the United States.?

Pacquiao wants to avoid a repeat of the controversy of the fight in Australia and the senator is hoping to be able to have a say in the selection of the judges for the rematch. There were speculations that a lesser purse will be expected if Pacquiao's wish would be granted, especially if the fight will be held on home soil. Horn was slated to earn $2 million to defend the WBO welterweight title. The contract of the July 2 Battle of Brisbane stipulated that Pacquuao will be paid much more than that for the rematch.

Promoter Bob Arum is set to let Horn face Pacquiao in December and if the Aussie is successful then defend his WBO title against unbeaten American Terence Crawford in April 2018. Horn told media he has not even seen Crawford fight but declared he is ready for the biggest bouts he can possibly get. ?I want to fight the very best,?? Horn said.

Horn is expecting that Pacquiao will be more than ready for their rematch. ?Manny will probably be better prepared for me in this fight. He knows what to expect now but I will fight differently to our first bout and bring some more surprises." Horn said he will try his best to win satisfactorily this time. ?But I?ll beat Manny even more convincingly this time. I don?t want to say I?m looking for the knockout but a KO certainly puts all arguments away."

Gavin and Joe Maloof are the brothers who were the ones who placed their bet of $880,000 on Mayweather to defeat McGregor. And if the Maloof brothers will win their bet, they will give the proceeds to charity. The wealthy businessmen were the former owners of the Sacramento Kings.

On March 9, 2008, McGregor had his first professional MMA bout, as a lightweight, defeating Gary Morris with a second-round TKO. After McGregor won his second fight against Mo Taylor, he made his featherweight debut in a loss via submission against Artemij Sitenkov.

Conor McGregor's Mixed Martial Arts record:
24 total fights, 21 wins, 18 wins by knockout, 1 win by submission, 2 wins by decision, 3 losses, 3 losses by submission.

Floyd Mayweather's Boxing record: 49 total fights, 49 wins, 0 loss, 0 draw, 26 wins by knockout, 387 rounds fought, 53% KO rate.

After retirement, Paulie Malignaggi joined the Team McGregor training camp. In a sparring session between Malignaggi and McGregor, the fight was said to turn violent, and pictures were leaked showing Malignaggi floored on the canvas. Malignaggi disputed the rumors and claimed he was pushed by the UFC champ and announced that he would leave Team McGregor.

Malignaggi is a two-division world champion, having won the IBF junior welterweight title from 2007 to 2008, and the WBA welterweight title from 2012 to 2013. He had 36 wins, 8 losses with 7 wins by KO.

In the ongoing FIBA Asia Cup 2017, South Korea beat Japan, 81-68 but finished the group stage at third place in Group C after losing out to New Zealand and host Lebanon in the quotient system that broke the three-way tie at 2-1. The Koreans however won over New Zealand Tall Blacks, 76-75. The dreaded Philippine nemesis meets Gilas on Wednesday for a semifinals slot. Matthew Wright scored 25 points for the Philippines as they topped Group B with a 80-74 win over the never-say-die Qatar on Sunday afternoon.

South Korea is the Philippines' greatest rival in Asian basketball. Gilas Pilipinas scored a sensational 86-79 win in the semifinals to gain an outright spot to the 2014 FIBA World Cup. The next year, Korea would get back at the Philippines in the quarterfinals of the Asian Games, 97-95, and eventually won the gold medal. Then in the Jones Cup last July, Korea beat the Gilas cadets, 83-72.
