Froilan Saludar Destroys Salatiel Amit in Mandaue; Paradero and Morton Score Wins (PHOTOS)

PhilBoxing.com

Saturday night at Mandaue Sports Complex, little brother Vic Saludar surprisingly lost by points to Toto Landero. But no need to worry. Because big brother Froilan Saludar won by TKO.

In the toughest, bloodiest fight of the evening, WBC #20 Flyweight Froilan Saludar (25-2-1, 15 KO's) scored a round 9 TKO win over Omega Gym fighter "Fearless Pakyao" Salatiel Amit (10-3-2, 7 KO's).

Things did not begin too good for Amit as Froilan Saludar using his proven experience and fast hands dropped him at the beginning of he round 1. It was a thunderous one-two combination that Amit did not see coming.

Then again, Froilan caught Amit clean on the chin sending him to visit the canvas one more time, and this is still the first round.

The brave Amit got up each time and kept on fighting, scoring with some success blows of his own manufacture, never showing signs of faltering.

On the contrary, Amit pressed the action during the subsequent rounds, but Froilan Saludar's fight knowledge, speed and talent forced Amit down again in the 5th.

And one more time the brave Amit, a 25-year-old warrior born in Naval, stood up going blow by blow with the much more experienced Froilan Saludar, who in 28 pro fights has lost only two times, once in Puerto Rico (in 2014) and the most recent in Japan (last year).

By the 8th, Amit's face and nose were showing signs of the punishment, blood running down from his broken-looking nose.. the left eye hurt.

Never say die Amit (R) fought bravely against Saludar.

Referee Romar Embudo has the ring physician check on Amit's broken nose.

The situation prompted referee Romar Embudo to correctly check with the ringside doc who in turn recommended the ending of actions.

The waiving-off signaled the TKO victory for Saludar. It was near the end of round 9. By all means, It was the ref's right call as the nose of Amit was not looking too good, Froilan Saludar was dominating and Amit was far away down in points.

Specifically, at the moment of the TKO, ringside judges had Froilan Saludar ahead 77-72 and 77-73.

In fact, going into the final round Amit would have needed to knock out Froilan in order to win, and the prospect of that could be found in another galaxy.

Here on Earth, the nose and eye of Amit were more important. Good call from the doc and the ref.

CASEY MORTON BEATS PHANNNALUK KONGSANG

In women's boxing, Casey Morton (5-0-3, 0 KO's) of Sacramento, California, dropped and outpointed Thailand fight girl Phannaluk Kongsang, a 22-year-old former muay thai boxer.

The 6-round battle in the super flyweight division was totally dominated by the 33-year-old American who punished the Thai boxer from the get-go.

After the knockdown, which occurred in the 4th round, the Thai fighting girl was just about to give up.

But somehow, Kongsang managed to hung in there till the end of the fight. It helped that Morton does not seem have much of punching power.

Morton registers her 5th victory against 0 losses and 3 draws.

Morton, born in the Great State of Hawaii, now fighting out of Sacramento, California, has valuable experience as an amateur boxer, reaching #3 in USA amateur rankings and competing for amateur national titles.

Casey Morton fought here in Cebu with manager/coach Jairo Escobar, a former boxer born in El Salvador, now residing and training his fighters in San Francisco, CA.

"I am going to continue with my career. I love boxing, and fighting is what I love to do," said Casey Morton, who is still undefeated.

ROBERT PARADERO VAPORIZES CHARLIE MALUPANQUE IN ROUND 4

This was the first fight of the evening and a really good fight... while it lasted.

The end came in the 4th stanza when power shots sent by Flyweight Robert "Inggo" Paradero (14-0, 8 KO's) of Bukidnon sent fellow Mindanao warrior Charlie Malupangue (5-3-3, 4 KO's) of Zamboanga bad to the canvas.

Malupanque, who from early in round 1 began fighting with the mouth open (a dangerous habit that should be corrected), showed heart, but when he went down, that was really it. Hurt, Malupangue could not make it up. His brave lion heart wanted to stand up. But his body couldn't do it.

Paradero finishes off Malupanque in the 4th round.

Then, the third man Romar Embudo completed the 10 seconds count and waived off at exactly 1:48 in round 4, declaring Robert Paradero winner by KO.

Still undefeated, Robert Paradero, 20, is the WBO Asia Pacific Youth Champion in good position in the WBO Asia Pacific rankings.
