ASTON PALICTE WINS NABF AND WBO INTERCON TITLES IN AMERICAN DEBUT By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Mon, 19 Dec 2016 Aston Palicte of Bago City won his American debut via split decision against Oscar Cantu of Texas during the "Knockout Night at the D" series at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center indoor facility. One judge scored the fight 96-94 for Cantu while the other two judges saw it 98-92 and 96-94 for Palicte, as ?Mighty? Aston won the WBO inter-continental and NABF super flyweight titles. Cantu suffered his first defeat and his record dipped to 14-1 with 1 KO, while Palicte improved to 22-2, 18 KO?s. Palicte immediately was the aggressor at the onset, but a defensive genius in Cantu made it difficult for the Pinoy boxer to find his range. He dominated the tenth round to get the nod of two judges and the split decision. The new champ wanted to be known as the next ?Diego Corrales,? the late former world champion from Sacramento, California. * * * Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is again luring the media?s attention lately by taking words and actions against UFC champion Conor McGregor. Floyd complained that the MMA star has been using his name to catapult the MMA star to fame. The former pound-for-pound king video-chatted with Nate Diaz, McGregor?s archrival, and promised to beat Conor. The Mayweather-McGregor clash becomes inevitable when the Irishman secured a boxing license in the state of California. The McGregor-Diaz first encounter (won by Diaz) last March 5 earned 1,600,000 buys while the rematch (won by McGregor) in August 20, sold 1,650,000 PPV?s. McGregor, the biggest MMA draw, lambasted Floyd that the boxer wanted to face the UFC champ very badly because this last bout against Andre Berto was a flop with only 350,000 PPV?s. * * * Famous celebrities and boxers came to The ?Fabulous? Forum at Inglewood, California to witness Bernard Hopkins? farewell fight dubbed ?Final 1.? Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) on March 18 on HBO pay-per-view from Madison Square Garden in New York.
