DALISAY KO’D IN IBF PAN PACIFIC TITLE FIGHT

PhilBoxing.com

Aging Roberto Dalisay has been knocked out in the seventh round by Thai champion Fahsai Sakkreerin in an IBF Pan Pacific featherweight title bout at the Suanlum Night Bazaar in Bangkok.

Tony Comia of the Games and Amusements Board boxing division defended what to many boxing people appeared to be a mismatch claiming Dalisay had complied with the GAB requirement of winning two of his last five fights to be cleared to fight abroad, unmindful of the fact that his two wins were against patsies.

Comia conceded that compared to the Thai champion Fahsai, Dalisay had a poor record with 21 wins, 21 defeats with 5 draws and wins by knockout and was rated No. 11 by the GAB. Fahsai, in stark contrast had a record of 24 wins against only 1 defeat with 9 knockouts.

Dalisay who is a boxer of Aljoe Jaro was coming off a second round knockout of Rolly Mandahinog in Tanza, Cavite last August 22. Mandahinog, according to boxrec.com. had a record of 5 wins and 17 defeats with 2 draws and 2 wins by KO. However 9 of Mandahinog’s defeats came by way of knockouts.

Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today had pointed out to GAB chairman Eric Buhain the obvious flaw in the rule of a boxer needing to win two of his last five fights to be allowed to campaign abroad since no consideration was being given at all to the quality of the opponents the fighter beat or lost to while the rule also sparked fake results in order to satisfy the GAB criteria.

IBF championship committee chairman Lindsey Tucker Jr in response to a query from us said in an email “we don’t have ratings for the IBF Pan Pacific titles. IBF board member and Southeast Asia representative Ray Wheatley handles all requests for Pan Pacific title fights.”

Wheatley in a story on the fight said Fahsai “destroyed” Dalisay (10-20, 9 KO’s) which conflicted with the claims of the GAB. Wheatley said Dalisay was “visibly hurt” in rounds two, three and four although Dalisay outworked the champion to take round five. Wheatley reported that Sakkreerin “dropped Dalisay in round seven twice and referee Yongsak Na Songka crowned the Thai boxer.”
