NIETES READY TO GO FOR FLYWEIGHT TITLE

PhilBoxing.com

Donnie Nietes, the longest reigning Filipino champion, told the Manila Standard Wednesday morning on his arrival from Los Angeles ?I?ll fight anybody for the flyweight title? which looms following his impressive debut at 112 pounds where he scored a shutout 120-108 decision over former world light flyweight champion Edgar Sosa of Mexico at the StubHub Center on Sunday morning, Manila Time.

Nietes arrived with bantamweight King Arthur Villanueva who scored a spectacular 2nd round knockout in a rematch with Mexican Juan Jimenez after Jimenez had begged ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer for another crack at Villanueva following what he considered a controversial 4th round KO in their first meeting last May and Mark ?Magnifico? Magsayo who dropped late substitute Robles twice en route to an easy twelve round unanimous decision along with trainers Edmund and Edito ?Ala? Villamor.

Nietes who is ranked No. 1 by the WBO in the flyweight division told us shortly after his arrival, that his talked about title fight would depend on the plans of Michael Aldeguer and renowned boxing patron Tony Aldeguer although he thinks the plan of Michael is to go for a title shot against the winner of the title eliminator between Zou Shiming of China who is ranked No. 2 and Thailand?s Kwanpichit Onesongchair Gym who is rated No. 3..

Zou Shiming beat Kwanpichit handily in their first meeting in November 2014 although he ended up with a severely swollen left eye. Zou Shiming is trained by Freddie Roach.

Nietes expressed confidence he could beat Zou Shiming with whom he has sparred in Roach?s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles telling us in Pilipino ?kaya sir.?

Nietes said he was ?very happy? over his performance against Sosa ?even if he didn?t fall I was able to score an impressive win. I hurt him several times but he was a true warrior, a fighter and I couldn?t drop him? although he had Sosa reeling in rounds 2, 4, 7 and 10 in the fight card telecast by the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN and the wideky watched TFC, the global Filipino channel.

Nietes said he was ?very happy with his power going up? to 112 pounds from his previous mastery of the 108 pound division and stressed that he trained hard as always and ?gave the fight importance because Sosa was a good fighter.?

Donnie indicated ?I can handle the flyweight division and my body is ready for 112 pounds.?

Team Ala left for Cebu on a connecting flight following their arrival via Philippine Airlines flight PR 103 from Los Angeles.
