PACQUIAO SPARS THREE ROUNDS

PhilBoxing.com

Manny Pacquiao sparred three rounds with David Rodela at the RWS Gym according to good friend and confidant Rex “Wakee” Salud and celebrated trainer Freddie Roach was clearly pleased with what he saw.

In a long distance telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today after the workout, Roach said the sparring “went off pretty well.”

Pacquiao is slowly picking up the tempo in preparation for his October 6 rematch with Marco Antonio Barrera at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on October 6.

Roach said that Pacquiao weighed 137 pounds after the workout and the weight was no problem.

Meantime, an effort to hype up a possible clash between Pacquiao and WBA super featherweight champion, undefeated Indonesia Chris John isn’t gaining any ground with most fight fans claiming that John was often favored by hometown decisions especially over reigning WBC champion Juan Manuel Marquez.

The calls for John to face Pacquiao arose after the Indonesian retained his title when Japanese challenger Zaiki Takemoto quit after the ninth round. John had previously dropped Takemoto in the sixth and eighth rounds.

SportsNut.com reported that Craig Christian who trains John in Perth, Western Australia and promoter Angelo Hyder claim the Indonesian champion has the skills to outbox any fighter in the world including Pacquiao. But the Pacquiao camp showed no interest in a fight with John which would be hard to sell to a US audience.

Filipino fight fans see in John a fighter very much like Thailand’s Fahprakorb Rakkiatgym who was the undefeated No.1 junior featherweight contender who was knocked out in the first round by Pacquiao after being sent to the canvas four times.
