ALBERT PAGARA RECOGNIZED DURING MAASIN CITY FIESTA
By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Fri, 19 Aug 2016

Former World Boxing Organization superbantamweight champion Prince Albert Pagara was given a plaque of recognition by the city government during the Maasin City Fiesta professional and amateur boxing last Tuesday.
The recognition was bestowed on the ALA Gym boxer "for bringing the name of Maasin City, Southern Leyte during the WBO superbantamweight title fight with Cesar Juarez of Mexico at the San Mateo Events Center, California, U.S.A."
The certificate was signed by City Mayor Nacional Mercado and yours truly as City Vice Mayor and Chairman of the Maasin City Sports Council.
Pagara apologized before the crowd for his loss to Juarez. "I'm sorry to fail my kababayans. That's boxing, sometimes you can taste defeat. Anyway, next time I will do everything I can to get back."
He told this writer he lost 25 pounds in preparing for Juarez at the Wild Card Gym and it contributed much to the loss of stamina in the later rounds.
He said that he learned from past mistakes and would correct them in succeeding fights. His next fight will be in November with the opponent still to be determined, according to him.
He watched the fights featuring fellow Maasihon Adones Aguelo in the main event. Looking at the city gym, Albert said "This is the place where I began my amateur fights. The gym at that time has no roof yet. I have fought four times here." His father Rey started training Albert and Jason at Barangay Lib-og.
He was still six years old at that time. The matchmaker was the late Tiny Espina and this writer was a councilor then and we started amateur boxing in the then Municipality of Maasin.
