PETR PETROV STOPS MARVIN QUINTERO IN 6 ROUNDS

LAS VEGAS -- Tonight at a fight card that is free and open to the public presented by Golden Boy Promotions at the Toshiba Plaza just opposite the new T-Mobile Arena, Russia?s Petr Petrov (37-4-2, 17KO) methodically broke down a very game and tough slugger from Mexico, the veteran Marvin Quintero (28-7-0, 24).

The fight was a give and go early but as it progressed to the middle rounds, Quintero?s face begun to swell and he started to have difficulty in seeing. At the end of round 6th, upon advice of the ring doctor, Referee Jay Nady stopped the fight and awarded the victory to Petrov. Quintero?s left eye was almost swollen shut (top photo).

With the win Petrov snagged the NABF/NABA Lightweight titles.

In the co-main event, Alan Sanchez (18-3-1, 9KO) of Fairfield, California used his legs and run around the ring while shooting occasional jabs and haymakers frustrating his more experienced opponent in Pablo Cesar Cano (29-5-1,,21KO) of Tlanepantla, Mexico. Cano tried in vain to cut the ring but Sanchez escaped every time he was about to be cornered.

In the end Sanchez snagged a win via UD with scores of 96-94, 97-93, and 97-93 and in the process won the vacant WBC Intercontinental Americas Welterweight title.

Garcia vs Ruiz.

In the best fight of the evening, Eric Ruiz (15-6-0, 6KO) of Oxnard, CA who was trained by Robert Garcia fought tooth and nails with Horacio Garcia (30-2-0, 21KO) of Guadalajara, MX with the fight eventually ending as a majority draw. The fight could be best described as one inside a phone booth. The two fighters stood toe to toe from start to the end and delighted the hundreds that braved a potential rain storm to come see the fight open door. The scores were 98-92, 93-97 and 95-95.


Gonzales vs Proano.

In the curtain raiser, Joet Gonzales (13-0-0,6KO) of Glendora, CA survived a nasty cut due to an accidental head butt early in the fight but went on to beat a very determined Ricardo Proano (11-4-0,9KO) of Chihuahua, MX. Scores were 80-72, 80-72, and 79-73.
