CANELO-KHAN WEIGHTS FROM LAS VEGAS (PHOTOS) By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sat, 07 May 2016 Las Vegas, NV: Cinco de Mayo may have passed two days ago but the mood for the Canelo-Khan fight remains hot despite the cold Nevada weather that threatens to wash out the weigh-in this afternoon. The event was held just outside the door of the new T-Mobile Arena, the latest entertainment venue in this City. With the event being free and open to the crowd, it was not too hard to imagine how many came to see their heroes. There was a ton, to say the least. Latinos, predominantly! The fighters did not disappoint either. They all came in on their respective contracted weights. Amir Khan (31-3-0, 19KO) of Pakistan via the UK who will bet all his marbles tomorrow against a decidedly bigger opponent, came in at exactly 155 lbs. Not to be outdone, the redhead hero of Guadalajara, Saul Canelo Alvarez (46-1,32KO) came in at the same weight of 155 lbs. Thus, we have a fight! For the co-main event for the NABO vacant middleweight title, David Lemeiux (34-3-1, 31KO) of Montreal, Canada hit the scales at 160 lbs. His opponent, Jersey Boy Glen Tapia (23-2-1, 15KO) who trains out of Hollywood, CA was just a shade under at 159.5 lbs. David Lemieux (L) and Glenn Tapia. Mauricio Herrera (L) and Frankie Gomez. For a 10 round welterweight fight, Riverside, CA slugger Mauricio Herrera (22-5-0,7 KO) weigh in at 145.5 lbs while his East LA neighbor and opponent, Frankie Gomez (20-0-0,13KO) was a half pound heavier at 146 lbs. For the vacant WBC de las Americas Middleweight title Patrick Teixeira ( 26-0-0,22 KO) of Santa Catarina, Brazil stakes his ?o? against Curtis Stevens (27-5-0, 20, of Brooklyn, NY. Teixeira came in at 159 lbs and Stevens at 160 lbs. Some pundits were smirking upon hearing another belt classification from WBC. ?Just a way to get ?sanction cash? one Latino guy was heard to say. Texiera and Stevens. Diego de la Hoya (L) and Rocco Santo Mauro. Diego de la Hoya of Mexicali ( 14-0-0,8KO) who made a name at the monthly Fight Nights at the Belasco Theater in LA was a sizzling 122 lbs while his opponent Rocco Santo Mauro, (13-0-0,1KO from Duarte, California who came in to the weigh-in eating a cup of ice cream, was 121lbs. Jason Quigley (10-0-0,9 KO) of Donegal, Ireland who will lay his clean record on the fight came in at 160 lbs and his opponent James de la Rosa of Harlingten, Tx (23-3-0, 13 KJO) was 162 lbs.
