World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaiman is scheduled to arrive at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday to attend the 16th Gabriel ?Flash:? Elorde Boxing Awards at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel later in the evening. Sulaiman will be the Guest of Honor and keynote speaker at the annual ?Banquet of Champions.? A innovative leader who succeeded his late father Don Jose Sulaiman who was regarded as a friend of Philippine boxing, Mauricio will witness the ?Casting of the Fist? of several former world champions and reigning WBO super bantamweight king Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire who is deep in training for his title defense against former Hungarian Olympian Zsolt Bedak who is ranked No. 4 at the Cebu Sports Center on April 23 and the longest reigning world champion WBO light flyweight king Donnie Nietes who is scheduled to defend his title against Raul ?Rayito? Garcia in Bacolod City in May. The former champions to be honored in the casting of the fists will be former two division flyweight champion Gerry Penalosa, former WBC super featherweight champions Rolando Navarrete and Rene Barrientos, both southpaws and former WBC/WBA flyweight champion Erbito Salavarria as well as former WBF super minimum weight champion Ronnie Magramo. The grandsons of the late, great Hall of Famer ?Flash? Elorde and the sons of Johnny and Liza Elorde, Juan Martrin ?Bai? Elorde the WBO Asia Pacific champion battles Indonesia?s Musa ?Andy? Letding f or the vacant WBO Oriental lightweight title while WBO Asia Pacific super bantamweight champion Juan Miguel Elorde clashes with another Indonesian Waldo Sabu in a WBO Asia Pacific junior featherweight championship. Promising WBC International flyweight champion Giemel Magramo, will clash with No. 4 ranked John Bajawa of Indonesia in a ten round supporting main event. The fights will begin at 5:00 p.m. The award for the ?Best Trainer? will go Nonito ?Dodong? Donaire Sr, father/trainer of five division world champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire while the ?Best Referee? is Danrex Tapdasan. The award for the two ?Most Promising Boxers? will go to OPBF champion Jonathan Taconing who is the mandatory challenger for the world title and IBF Youth featherweight champion Mark ?Magnifico? Magsayo of the famed Ala gym. A special award will be handed to former OPBF champion and world title challenger Socrates Batoto. A posthumous award will be bestowed on Maria Luisa Elorde, eldest daughter of ?Flash? Elorde with ?Awards of Distinction? to be conferred on Mauricio Sulaiman and WBO vice president for the Asia Pacific region Leon Panoncillo.
