NBA -- Acute appendicitis downs Mirotic
By Vener Gascon PhilBoxing.com Thu, 28 Jan 2016
CHICAGO -- Injury woes are continuing to plague the Chicago Bulls.
Weeks after losing Joakim Noah for the season following surgery for a dislocated shoulder, the Bulls announced yesterday that 6-foot-10 forward Nikola Mirotic will be out at least until after the All-Star break.
The sweet shooting Mirotic was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and underwent an appendectomy at the Rush University Medical Center.
The 220-pound sophomore has appeared in 44 games this season, averaging 10.6 points and 4.9 rebounds an outing. A 3-point specialist, he is shooting 38.4 percent from the field and 35.4 percent from long distance.
The inability to stay healthy is one of the reasons why the Bulls have struggled this season, winning just 25 games in 44 starts. They are currently ranked fourth in the Eastern Conference, seven games behind the 32-12 Cleveland Cavaliers.
Mike Dunleavy has yet to play this season for the Bulls after undergoing back surgery last summer while Derrick Rose has already missed six games thus far dealing with various injuries. Veteran Kirk Hinrich has also missed some significant time on the floor.
With injuries piling up, the Bulls are constantly searching for rhythm and continuity.
