SAN FRANCISCO -- After darting to a franchise-best 36-2 start, the Golden State Warriors have lost two of their last three games.
The defending champions fell to the Detroit Pistons, 113-95, on Saturday night at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The defeat was the Warriors' second setback in three assignments following a 112-110 loss to Denver last January 13.
Steph Curry was brilliant once again, scoring 38 points to pace the Warriors. But his effort fell short as Golden State missed 60 of its 94 field goals. Klay Thompson had 24 points and Festus Ezeli pitched in 10 but no other Warriors scored finished in double figures.
Reggie Jackson and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope each had 20 markers to pace the Pistons while Andre Drummond had a monster effort of 21 rebounds with 14 points. Ersan Ilyasove pumped in 10.
It was a double whammy for Pistons fans who celebrated Ben Wallace's jersey retirement during halftime. Among those in attendance included Wallace's teammates from the Pistons' 2004 championship team --- Chauncey Billups, Rasheed Wallace, Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince. Coach Larry Brown also joined the celebration.
The Warriors still lead the overall standings with a 37-4 slate while the Pistons improved to 22-18.
