VIC SALUDAR VIES FOR WORLD TITLE AGAINST KOSEI TANAKA OF JAPAN

ORLANDO, FL ? Vic 'Vicious' Saludar of Cotababo, Philippines is set to challenge WBO minimumweight champion Kosei Tanaka of Japan on Dec. 31 in Nagoya, this was announced during the Ratings Committee discussions Thursday in the ongoing 28th WBO convention held at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista Hotel here.
Saludar, 24, who has a record of 11 wins with 9 knockouts against a single defeat, is the current WBO Asia-Pacific minimumweight title holder which he won against Rizky Pratama of Indonesia last September 9. Vic was an amateur standout who won gold medals in national competitions and was a bronze medalist in the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games. He is the youngest of three boxing brothers that includes super flyweight title contender Froilan and national amateur team mainstay Rey.
The Japanese WBO champion Tanaka, 20, has a record of five wins with two knockouts and no defeats. He captured the title by defeating Julian Yedras (24-2-0, 13KO) of Mexico on May 30, 2015.
The WBO minimumweight belt was recently held by Merlito Sabillo of the Philippines who lost it to Francisco Estrada of Mexico who gave it up when he moved up in weight, captured by Japan's Katsunari Takayama who vacated it before it was being won by Tanaka.
