EARLY RESULTS FROM STAPLES CENTER

LOS ANGELES -- Here are the early results Saturday night from Staples Center in the Leo Santa Cruz vs Abner Mares main header for the WBA super world featherweight title and the Interim WBC world super bantamweight title fight between Hugo Ruiz and Julio Ceja on the co-feature.
5th fight (above photo): Brian Castano (9-0-0) stays unbeaten by knocking out Thomas Howard (8-5-0, 4KO) at 2:11 in roundd 4. The referee stops fight due to numerous unanswered heavy punches.
4th fight: Anthony Flores (9-0-0, 5KO) wins by majority decision over Curtis Morton (3-5-3, 0KO). Scores: 58-56, 58-56 and 57-57.
3rd fight: Paul Mendez (29-2-2, 9KO) stops Andrik Saralegui (19-3-0, 15KO). Saralegui was dropped in round one and quit on his stool at end of round two.
2nd fight: Isaiah Najera (1-1-0, 0K) beats debutant Antonio Sta. Cruz via majority decision. Scores are 39-37, 38-37, 38-38.
Opening fight: Jose Gomez (20-2-2, 9KO) wins by unanimous decision over Manuel Rubalcaba (19-3-0, 15KO). Scores all 40-36 in favor of Gomez.
