PACQUIAO PLANS TO FIGHT IN APRIL 2016, PREFERABLY A REMATCH WITH MAYWEATHER By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Mon, 17 Aug 2015 GENERAL SANTOS ? ?I'll fight in April.? That's what 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and Sarangani congressman told Philboxing here Sunday at Pacquiao's mansion who had a hectic meeting with local officials belonging to his party as they plot their moves in the upcoming local and national elections in May next year. ?I want a rematch with Mayweather,? Pacquiao added. Pacquiao lost to Mayweather last May in Las Vegas in what was dubbed as the 'Fight of the Century' but turned to be a big dud and a huge letdown to fans when the normally attacking Pacquiao failed to pin down the very elusive pound for pound king, later claiming that he had a shoulder injury coming into the fight. Mayweather who is undefeated with a 48-0 record and on the verge of duplicating Rocky Marciano's unbroken record of 49-0, however, has announced that his fight against Andre Berto next month on September 12, will be the last fight of his illustrious career. Bolton's Amir Khan, on the other hand, had made it known that he wants to fight Pacquiao next year as Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum was reported to be talking with middle eastern financiers who want to hold the Pacquiao-Khan event possibly in Abu Dhabi and maybe the most realistic fight for the comebacking Filipino boxing legend. Pacquiao's hall of fame trainer Freddie Roach however wanted his ward to face WBC/WBA junior welterweight titleholder Danny Garcia in his comeback fight stating "that?s the easiest fight in the f***ing world." A Team Pacquiao insider told Philboxing that Pacquiao almost quit in the middle of the Mayweather fight due to the unbearable pain he suffered as he re-injured his shoulder in the 4th round. ?I almost said 'no mas' because of the pain,? Pacquiao told the insider but the prospect of the ignominy by quitting dissuaded the WBO fighter of the decade and future hall of famer. Pacquiao is currently taking time out to commune at his Maitum beach house to rehabilitate his injured shoulder after he underwent operation right after the Mayweather fight last May. People close to the congressman confided that Pacquiao has, as of late, been regularly doing swimming, scuba diving and jet skiing indicating that his shoulder injury may have been already healed. Pacquiao however has yet to have his injury examined by a competent medical practitioner. File photo: Pacquiao in a scuba diving gear.
