PhilBoxing.com

Ali.
Heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali and a roster of great fighters who were described by the World Boxing Council website as among ?extraordinary and beloved boxing icons? joined Lennox Lewis, Marvin Hagler, Roger Mayweather, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, the late Johnny Tapia, Marco Antonio Barrera and Felix ?Tito? Trinidad joined the elite immortals at the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame after being presented as new members.

Barrera became the second Mexican fighter who got in while Trinidad, only after seven years of retirement, became the first Puerto Rican fighter in the Hall of Fame.

Barrera ended his impressive career with a record of 67-7 with 44 knockouts and conquered world titles at super bantamweight, featherweight and super featherweight.

The WBC said he will ?forever be remembered for the fabulous trilogy with Erik ?El Terrible? Morales ? even though eight division Filipino world champion Manny Pacquiao beat Barrera twice and Norales min two of their three epic ring battles.

The WBC quoted Barrera who said, ?This is something I can?t believe. I used to only be proud of having the same birthday as Muhammad Ali but now I will be able to say that we are inducted into the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame on the very same day.?

Trinidad who reigned as welterweight and middleweight champion said that this type of event makes him love the sport of boxing even more.

Trinidad said ?When I was young I thought of this and as my career was greater and greater, getting this recognition became a goal and that?s why I must thank life and also boxing for being able to be here. There are tears in my eyes.? During the event undefeated pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr was presented with the ?Fighter of the Year? award. The Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame was established in 2013 and since then, great figures including: Oscar de la Hoya, Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard, George Foreman, Diego Corrales, Evander Holyfield, Roberto "Mano de Piedra" Duran, plus other greats of boxing have become part of it.

The NVBHOF has the main goal of immortalizing boxers and members of the community related to Nevada boxing, considering also resident figures who's outstandingly contributed to the boxing industry.
