RAFAEL RAMOS NAMED REFEREE FOR KING ARTHUR VILLANUEVA-MCJOE ARROYO IBF TITLE FIGHT By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 16 Jul 2015 Referee Ramos in action. Puerto Rican born Rafael Ramos has been named referee for the King Arthur Villanueva - McJoe Arroyo battle for the vacant IBF super flyweight title fight at the Don Haskins Convention Center in El Paso, Texas on Sunday, Manila Time. In a welcome development the chairman of the Philippimnes Games and Amusements Board Ramon "Monju" Guanzon left for El Paso to be at ringside for the fight and to protect the interests of the Filipino contender King Arthur V illanueva, learning from the foul-infested world title fight in which Johnreil Casimero was the victim of an utterly incompetent referee and lost a fight he should have won. Ramos who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in San Antonio, Texas on March 1, 20i4 at the Alamadome is also a Hall of Famer in his native Puerto Rico and is recognized as an outstanding referee who has worked bouts for the IBF, WBC, WBA, WBO among other organizations. Ramos has officiated in 21 fight this year including the Terence Crawford -THomas Dulorme clash f or the vacant WBO super lightweight title in which Crawford scored a devastnating 6th round TKO. In the past Ramos was third man in the ring when Manny Pacquiao beat Joshua Clottey in Texas and also officiated in the face off for the vacant world super bantamweight crown between Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire and Puerto Rico's Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. The judges for the fight who were mutually agreed upon by the IBF Championship Committee chairman Lindsey Tucker and Texas Boxing and Wrestling Director Greg Alvarez are Levi Martinez, Larry Hazzard Jr and John Stewart, all competent officials. Martinez who is from New Mexico has worked 36 fights so far this year and was a judge in the Mike Alvarado-Brandon "Bam Bam" Rios third fight of a trilogy. He also was a judge in the Roman Martinez-Orlando Salido WBA super featherweight titkle fight. The third is Larry Hazzard Jr son of the judge and referee Larry Hazzard. The official supetvisor will be Lindsey Tucker. In a letter to Tom Brown of TGB Promotions, Tucker reminded the officials about the rules and rg ultins governing IBF Championship fights "which require a second day weigh-in at which neither contestant may weigh more than 10 pounds over the weight limit or not more than 10 pound over the weight limit."
