PhilBoxing.com

CEBU CITY -- Blue chip prospect Mark ?Magnifico? Magsayo captured his first title belt ? the IBF Youth featherweight crown - with a spectacular fifth round TKO win against Mexico's Rafael Reyes.

After trading hard hooks in the opening round, Magsayo began to find his range and effectively darted in and out. Reyes tried to trap him by goading him to stay in front and trade. But Magsayo scored a knockdown in the third in a moment of confusion when Reyes tried to complain about a low blow.

Reyes forgot the old boxing adage to protect himself at all times. He got up but continued to receive hard volleys in the subsequent rounds. In the third, Magsayo stepped up his offense up a notch and sent Reyes on his knees with a stiff left uppercut. Referee Ver Abainza stopped the fight at the 2:29 mark.

Referee Ver Abainza waives off the fight after Magsayo scored his second knockdown of the fight in the fifth round.
