PARRENAS SAYS HE DIDN?T GO TO MEXICO ON HOLIDAY, HE WENT THERE TO WIN THE WBO SUPER FLYWEIGHT INTERIM TITLE

PhilBoxing.com

World Boxing Organization Oriental super flyweight champion Warlito Parrenas has told a pre-fight press conference leading to the WBO Interim title fight against Mexico?s David Corona on Sunday, Manila Time, expressed confidence he would win despite fighting in the hometown of the No.2 ranked Carmona.

The 31 year old Parrenas who is ranked No. 1 in the world came face to face with the 24 year old Carmona for the first time during the pre-fight press conference of Zanfer Promotions and All Star Boxing and Sports Productions at the Multi-purpose center in Hermosillo, Mexico.

The lanky Filipino who has a record of 24-6 with 21 knockouts said he did not come on a holiday to Mexico and will leave the country as Interim champion and would be ready to face Japan?s champion Naoya Inoue within the 90 day period stipulated by the WBO.

Carmona who has a record of 19-2-4 with 8 knockouts was confident that his preparation and the support of the Mexican fans will help him be crowned on Saturday in Mexico.

Carmona said ?this time I come with a lot of preparation. I made a camp and never ever wanted an opportunity like this fighting in Mexico for a championship and I?m sure I?m going to show people what I am capable of.?

Carmona fought for the world title against Argentine veteran Omar Andres Narvaez and lost by a 7th round TKO in Buenos Aires on December 21, 2013 but claimed he was not given enough time to get into top form which is something that has not happened this time around.

Promoters Felix ?Tuto? Zabala Jr, ?Severo? Carmona and Ricardo Maldonado and his manager Gonzalo Plascencia expressed confidence that Carmona will end up as the winner and would then unify the title against Inoue who won the crown with a stunning 2nd round knockout of Narvaez on December 30, 2014.

Carmona has won three straight fights after the Narvaez loss and in his last bout scored a ten round unanimous decision over Daniel Lozano last March 27.

Parrenas on the other hand scored a 3rd TKO over Thailand?s Kaichon Sor Vorapin last April 24.
