DOGGETT BLEW IT; IBF SHOULD ORDER AN IMMEDIATE RUENROENG-CASIMERO REMATCH

PhilBoxing.com

I finally got a chance to review the fight between Johnreil Casimero and IBF world flyweight champion Amnat Ruenrueng of Thailand and I was flabbergasted to say the least.

The Filipino pug for all intents and purposes was robbed of an opportunity to win by the IBF ?referee? Larry Doggett. From the first ?take?down? that did not elicit a warning from Doggett, I knew Casimero was hopeless. He had to beat two guys in the ring!

I have seen all kinds of referees doing their thing over the years - from the really world class jobs by folks like Jack Reiss of California, Bruce McTavish of New Zealand and Kenny Bayless of Nevada to some of mediocre ones in small club fights seen on the internet. But I must admit, Larry Doggett?s was far out worse than the worse one I have ever seen.

The only thing I can think about in so far as why Doggett performed the way he did was because the probably eat too much chili-ridden Thai food the night before and he was having a huge stomach ache that distracted him immensely. Therefore his mind was focused on where to find the nearest toilet rather than officiate a fight.

What else could it be?

Or probably the ambiance in Thai combat sports confused him and he thought he was judging a Muay Thai fight and not boxing.

But regardless, Doggett was out of it.

He allowed the Thai to push the rules to the limit and he did not react to all the fouls committed by the Thai until taking away a point from him did not matter in the final results.

I would not be surprised at all if the almighty dollar had a lot to do with his action. But that is pure speculations and it?s not fair to even say it. But I would not argue with Ronnie Nathanielz who stated that Doggett?s ?integrity is suspect?!

But be that as it may, IBF should take this matter in their own hands - that is if they have the temerity to do so! Are you listening Daryl Peoples?

IBF should demand an immediate re-match within 90 days and that it be held in a neutral country like Macao, China where fights for lower weights draw plenty of fans in the seats. But never again in Thailand where home town decisions are the norm.

Short of that, the least IBF can do is keep Casimero as the No.1 mandatory challenger forcing the Thai to fight him again within a year after a voluntary title defense against a weak opponent.

Oh let us not forget Aljoe Jaro, the trainer of the Thai.

I have no doubt he knew that the Thai was cheating. The least he could have asked him was fight like a man and do it fair and square. In fairness Jaro was telling him to be careful about the ?fouls? but he did not push it hard enough to make his ward stop. In fact, the Thai completely ignored Jaro and went on doing what he was doing the whole fight. The Thai to me is the epitome of a cheap and dirty fighter and does not deserve to be a called a ?champion?.

Jaro allowing him to perform like that reflects on the ethics of both of them. I am sure, if Jaro were training Casimero, he would have yelled the loudest and protest the action of the referee and the end results of the fight.

Certainly, I do not agree with his statement indicating that the Thai was not a ?cheat? but was in fact ?smart.? As they say in the vernacular, ?magkaiba yun matalino kaysa sa magulang? (there is a difference between being smart and being cunning.)
