PACQUIAO NOT OVER-CONFIDENT

PhilBoxing.com

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Not even a Manny Pacquiao can beat Manny Pacquiao.

Thus said Pacquiao's chief trainer Freddie Roach by way of allaying fears that his prized pupil of 14 years might turn overconfident in his super-bout with Floyd Mayweather this coming Saturday (Sunday in Mania) at the MGM Grand Arena here.

"No way that it could happen," Roach said after seeing the World Boxing Organization welterweight titlist energetic four-round working the mitts with him Tuesday at the Top Rank gym.

"Manny and I have been working together for nearly a decade and-a-half and he never had been overconfident in all his fights we worked together," Roach added.

"Manny knows when he's exceeding in all aspects of prizefightng," the Hall of Fame trainer explained.

Pacquiao concurred with his guru's observation, saying, he never had gone beyond what he can do in all his undertaking.

"Yeah, often times, I felt 100 percent confident in what I'm doing, but overconfident, never," he assured inside the dressing room following a light two-hour workout that day.

"Nag-o-overconfident lamang ako in my belief and faith in God," he said. "Naririnig nyo naman ako na laging nagsasabi na ang paniniwala ko sa Diyos ay walang katapusan."

Roach, meanwhile, said that upon request of the three-time boxer of the year, he is scheduling another workout Wednesday with a short roadwork at a private school track oval and four more rounds of punishing the mitts later in the day.

"There's a press conference tomorrow so, we canceled training to give him rest. "But Manny told me he wants to train, so I obliged in order for him to have a peace of mind," Roach said.

Tuesday was another long day for Pacquiao. His day begun with a light run at the oval. He then attended a fans rally held at Mandalay Bay's South Convention Center in lieu of the canceled Grand Arrival ceremony. With only a little rest, he proceeded to the Top Rank gym.

At the fans rally, he invited those who attended to watch the 12-round showdown with the undefeated Mayweather.
