WBC SAYS PACQUIAO-MAYWEATHER PPV WILL BE A KINGDOM?S RANSOM By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 28 Apr 2015 The World Boxing Council estimates the pay per view bonanza in the ?Battle for Greatness? between unbeaten pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr and eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao ?equates to a kingdom's ransom in money!? The WBC notes that Mayweather set the existing high water mark in current PPV records, during his bout against Oscar De La Hoya in 2007, when they attracted 2.4 millions buys, and in September 2013 in his bout against ?Canelo? Alvarez sales which stacked up $150 millions. The WBC website states that ?according by information released by promoter, Bob Arum, the current records will be breached by almost double!? Initial calculations from the Top Rank promoter indicate that the Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 2 will reach to at least 3 million homes, and with a minimum prize of $89.95 it will generate profits of $269 million, without considering the High Definition option that will cost an additional $10 more. All this adds up to $300 million which will effectively double the current record. The WBC reports that the estimates indicate the fight could reach 4 million houses, considering that there has not been any major boxing PPV event in the last 15 years. With It points out that with Mayweather?s talent on PPV and the affection people feel for Pacquiao, this match will be highly attractive for all the World, not only for boxing fans. In the Philippines there is an absolute frenzy about the fight with Solar Entertainment Corporation which has exclusive rights for TV and all other platforms and the three major TV networks that will telecast the fight as well as the PPV outlets and hundreds of restaurants, bars and other venues devoting time and resources to a frantic promotional effort. TV networks and radio stations continue to feature specials and interviews with boxing analysts, media personalities and showbiz stars in the highest rating entertainment and news programs.
