NBA Playoffs -- Warriors open title run with Game 1 win over Pelicans By Joan Secuya-Medida PhilBoxing.com Sun, 19 Apr 2015 ![]() SAN FRANCISCO -- One down. Fifteen to go. The Golden State Warriors' quest for the 2015 NBA title went off to a solid start as the No.1 overall seed held off the New Orleans Pelicans, 106-99, in Game 1 of their Western Conference quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at the raucous Oracle Arena in Oakland. MVP candidate Steph Curry led Golden State with 34 points and the Warriors flaunted their explosiveness as all five of their starters scored in double figures. Klay Thommpson tallied 21, Draymond Green had 15 while Andrew Bogut and Harrison Barnes combined for 24 points and 22 rebounds. The Warriors, who finished the regular season with a franchise-best 67-15 slate have home court advantage throughout the playoffs and the NBA Finals, jumped to a 28-13 start and led by as many as 82-57 with 1:54 to go in the third quarter. The cushion was more than enough to hold off the Pelicans, who won the fourth quarter, 33-22. New Orleans' All-Star center Anthony Davis gave the Warriors all they can handle with 35 points and 7 rebounds. Quincy Pondexter added 20 and 9 boards and Eric Gordon registered 16, but no other Pelican recorded double digits in points as New Orleans made only 42.2 percent of their field goals (35 of 83). Golden State hopes to take a commanding 2-0 lead when this best-of-7 series returns for Game 2 on Tuesday night at the Oracle Arena.
