NBA -- Heat keep playoffs hopes alive with crucial win over Hornets By Roman David Garay PhilBoxing.com Thu, 09 Apr 2015 MIAMI - With just 5 games left in the regular season, the Miami Heat entered Tuesday night's game badly needing a win to keep their playoffs hopes alive. Trailing the 8th seeded Boston Celtics by a full game, the Heat answered the call and tripped the Charlotte Hornets, 105-100, at the American Airlines Arena. At 35-43, Miami crept to within 1/2 game of a playoffs berth in the Eastern Conference. Goran Dragic scored 28 points (his season-high in a Heat uniform) while Luo Deng and Dwyane Wade added 21 and 19 points, respectively. "We just did what we needed to do. Take care of business at home by any means necessary." Wade told reporters inside the Heat locker room. "It doesn't have to be pretty, we just have to find a way. These guys are going to fight and give it everything they've got." Miami used a 16-4 run towards the last five minutes of the third quarter to build a 7 point lead heading to the final quarter. It turned out to be an adequate cushion to thwart off a late surge by the visiting Hornets. Gerald Henderson led the way for the Hornets with 29 points while Kemba Walker chipped in 17 points for Charlotte, which fell to 11th place in the Easr with a 33-44 slate. "Tonight was a big game. We've played all the teams that are right there in the mix with us and we've lost them all. That's never good., " Anderson told reporters. "Obviously, they play other teams, but when you can slightly alter the record of a team that's right there with you, that can help. We haven't done a good job of that. We just have to move on and win our next game," Anderson added. Charlotte played without its star Al Jefferson along with key players Cody Zeller and Michael Kidd-Gilcrist because of injuries. Charlotte will meet the Toronto Raptors at home Wednesday while the Heat will face the Chicago Bulls at American Airlines Arena on Thursday.
