TRAINER RICK STAHELI EXPECTS DONAIRE TO HAVE A GOOD COMEBACK ON ?PINOY PRIDE 30' By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 18 Mar 2015 American trainer Rick Staheli expects five division world champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire to make a winning comeback in his return to the ring in ?Pinoy Pride 30? at the Smart Araneta Colisum on March 28 following his painful 6th round TKO loss to the bigger and stronger featherweight super champion Nicholas ?The Axe Man? Walters last October 18 in Carson, CA. Staheli who steered Manny Pacquiao to his first world title in December 1998 when he scored a sensational 8th round knockout over Chatchai Sasakul of Thailand, told the New Standard/Viva Sports he had received glowing reports of Donaire?s preparation for his fight against 31 year old William Prado of Brazil who has a record of 22-4-1 with 15 knockouts while the 32 year old Donaire?s record is 33-3, 21 knockouts. Staheli admitted ?Nonito has always been one of my favorites. He has got a skill set that most boxers don?t have and I expect him to make a good comeback and put on a fine performance as long as he can make the weight without it hurting him.? Donaire has returned to the super bantamweight division after a disappointing thrust into the featherweight division which is four pounds more at 126. Renowned boxing patron Tony Aldeguer told us after the public workout of the stars of ?Pinoy Pride 30? at the ALA Boxing and Fitness Gym at the Banilad Town Center last Saturday that clearly Donaire was the favorite of the fans since he last fought in the Philippines in April 2009. Aldeguer said Donaire looked terrific in sparring two rounds with Japan?s Ryo Akaho in which he showed speed and punching power and excellent movement. Both WBO light flyweight champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes and undefeated super bantamweight Prince Albert Pagara were also very impressive. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ronnie Nathanielsz. |
