DOLIGUEZ NO MATCH FOR EX-WORLD CHAMPION MONTIEL By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 15 Mar 2015 Filipino super featherweight Rogelio Jun Doliguez failed to live up to the hype surrounding his career and proved to be no match for former three division world champion Fernando ?Cochulito? MOntiel in a ten round bout in Tijuana, Mexico on Sunday, Manila Time. The 23 year old Doliguez was battered by Montiel who won by a lopsided 99-88 margin on the scorecards of all three judges and dropped to 19-3-2 with 14 knockouts while the 36 year old Montiel improved to 54-4-2 with 39 knockouts. A huge right hand dropped Doliguez in the opening round but he somehow managed to beat the count and although groggy, survived the round. The Filipino often landed on the canvas with the referee eventually losing his patience and giving him a tongue-lashing for his failure to stay on his feet even though the visits to the canvas were ruled as slips and for his penchant for low blows. Montiel landed several accurate punches throughout the fight to score his eighth straight victory since 2012 as he continues his bid for another world title shot. The popular Mexican brawler suffered a bad beating in a WBO super bantamweight title fight on February 19, 2011, losing by a 2nd round TKO to Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. His only other loss was by a twelve round unanimous decision to Victor Terrazas in a clash for the vacant WBC Silver title on November 19, 2011. Doliguez who lost his third fight in his last four appearances dropped a unanimous decision over six rounds to Gabriel Francisco Pina who had a poor record of 10-11-5 with 4 knockouts but avenged that defeat with an 8th round unanimous decision victory last May 23, 2014. However in his last fight Doliguez lost by a 5th round majority technical decision to Denis Tuberon when their heads clashed for a second time forcing the stoppage after Doliguez bled profusely from the cut.
