FIVE WBC TITLE FIGHTS IN KUNMING, CHINA ON SUNDAY By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 17 Feb 2015  Zhong. The World Boxing Council will present what it describes as ?a sensational boxing card? which will feature five championship fights at a brand new stadium in Kunming, China on Sunday. The WBC headed by its president Mauricio Sulaiman concedes that the organization has awakened a sleeping dragon and that internationally respected referee Bruce McTavish who has lived in Angeles City for some 43 years along with WBC board member Frank Quill of Australia began working to develop boxing in China which McTavish told the Manila Standard/Viva Sports actually started some 13 years ago. The WBC reported that ?many trips have been reinforced with skills, hard work and devotion via seminars for ring officials, ring physicians and trainers which led to the organization of the first ever Professional Boxing World Convention, as the WBC held its 46th annual Convention in Chendu and at the same time the first World Championship ever to take place in China in which Xiong Zhao Zhong conquered the WBC minimum weight championship on November 24th 2012 defeating Mexico's Javier Martinez by unanimous decision. He went on to successfully defend his title twice. Xiong Zhao Zhong (24-6, 14 KO?s) will be back in action on Sunday when he fights for the vacant WBC minimum weight International Crown against Hiroya Yamamoto (8-2, 3 KO?s) from Japan. The WBC stated that the unprecedented boxing card on Sunday ?is the first in a series of meticulously planned events which will culminate in the WBC's 53rd annual Convention to be held in November in Kunming China.? The Zovi Boxing Promotions of Liu Gang will present former WBC super flyweight Silvester Lopez (23-9-2, 17 KO?s) from the stable of Gabriel ?Bebot? Elorde in the main event in a clash for the super bantamweight Silver title against Qiu Xiao Jun (14-2, 6 KO?s) while veteran female boxer Gretchen Abaniel (15-6, 6 KO?s) also from the Philippines will clash with Cai Zongju (3-1, 1 KO) for the WBC International female minimum weight title.
