Mayweather Jr. refutes that deal is reached for Pacquiao fight during NBA All Star Game By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Mon, 16 Feb 2015 New York - In what is probably the most watched NBA All Star Game in the history of .. boxing, yes - boxing, fans of the Sweet Science were patiently tuned in to what was rumored to be an ?official announcement? of ?The Fight? between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. And just like the recently concluded Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona, fans were disappointed - again. With some reports that a deal has been agreed by two of boxing?s biggest stars between Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao, and rumors (and even an article) that their fight will be officially announced by Mayweather himself during the half time of this year?s All Star Game in New York, fans who have been waiting for five years now - waited again tonight. But unlike the Super Bowl, Mayweather was actually interviewed live during the NBA All-Star game, but no official announcement of the fight came. Instead he refuted some reports from websites that seem to be in a tight race to be the first to break the news about the mega-fight. Mayweather Jr. who was in New York all weekend for the NBA?s yearly festival, was interviewed during the third quarter (not half time as reported by one site) by TNT?s David Aldridge and the famous boxer denied reports that a deal has been reached between him and Pacquiao on a possible May 2nd welterweight fight this year. Aldridge during the 2 minute interview asks Mayweather Jr. if reports of a $250 million deal has been set for him to fight Pacquiao. ?You and Pac (Pacquiao), has it been set and have you signed it?" ?That is not true. I have not signed yet and he has not signed yet. It?s just been speculations and rumors. But I am hoping that we can make the fight happen,? Mayweather replied. Aldridge then jokingly asked the boxer if he can move the fight date to July instead of May as he is working and that he would like to take time off to watch the most-hyped about fight of all time. ?I?m Mayweather, we have to make it happen in May,? was the boxer?s quick reply. And there you go, at least one thing was confirmed by Mayweather Jr. You can reach the author at rrmaze24@aol.com. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Rich Mazon . |
