WBC FORMALIZES OPENING OF PROFESSIONAL BOXING IN PAKISTAN By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 13 Feb 2015 The World Boxing Council has formalized the opening of professional boxing in Pakistan . WBC President, Mauricio Sulaiman met with the Minister of Sports Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan and the director general of sport in Punjab, Usman Anwar and formalized the affiliation of Pakistan throughout the Continental federation ABCO (Asian Boxing Council) in Lahore Pakistan. The WBC website reported that Vice President Alberto Guerra from Panama and WBC International representative Juan Carlos Pelayo along with Chano Planas and Antobella Obreja joined Sulaiman and began the work to establish pro boxing in a historic visit to Pakistan. Several activities have already taken place beginning with a massive press conference a visit to the municipal Gym to meet the first breed of boxers and trainers, a judges and referees seminar and a WBC Cares visit to The Children?s Hospital & Institute of Child Health. WBC welterweight Silver champion Amir Khan who is of Pakistani heritage was appointed honorary ambassador of the program and there will be several immediate action to begin the process of getting the sport underway. The WBC reported that the closing ceremony of the Punjab Youth festival will take place this Saturday February 14 with the World Guinness Record of 4 million kids participating in the sports festival and the ceremony will seal the agreement with the presentation of the official certificate of affiliation.
