Suico Logs 150 Rds for Japan Title Defense!
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Thu, 19 Apr 2007
Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) lightweight king Randy 'Komong Bato' Suico has with him a total of 150 rounds of sparring going into his titular defense against Japanese Tomonori Nakagawa at the Prefectural Gym in Osaka, Japan on Monday.
"He is in good shape. He has 150 rds," informed trainer Juanito Ablaca today from his base in Lilo-an, Cebu.
According to Ablaca, Suico sparred with Christopher Saluday at the RWS Gym, and also put in some rounds against WBF welter world champ Dondon Sultan, WBO Asia Pacific lightweight champ Czar Amonsot,top-ranked welterweight Mark Jason Melliguen at the ALA Gym.
"Our manager has called us up to make weight early, because it's very cold in Osaka at this time, and sweating out would be a big problem," added Ablaca, who was still sorting out until yesterday problems arising from his son Ryan getting stabbed in Cebu after watching the Manny Pacquiao-Jorge Solis fight on television.
Suico and Ablaca depart on a Philippine Airlines flight at 9:30 AM tomorrow for Manila en route to Osaka.
This will be Suico's first title defense of the 135-lb regional title he acquired with a resounding fourth-round technical knockout over Thailand's Pongpetch Chuwatana in October last year.
Suico, according to his manager Joe Koizumi, is slated to see action three times this year, making him one of the only two OPBF champions who will be most active in 2007.
