NBA -- Irving's career-high 55 points lift Cavs over Blazers 99-94 By Jose Carlos Monroy PhilBoxing.com Sat, 31 Jan 2015 CLEVELAND -- Kyrie Irving dished out a performance for the ages as he scored a career-high 55 points to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers over the Portland Trail Blazers, 99-94, at the Quicken Loans Arena. Irving swished a franchise-record 11 triples, including one in right corner that sealed the deal for Cleveland with six seconds left to play. ?Kyrie was exceptional, which is a bit of understatement. What Kyrie did is for the Pantheon. Everybody here in Cleveland will always be able to relish and treasure, but the team did defend and played great the entire night.? Cavs head coach David Blatt said after the game. LaMarcus Aldridge, playing with an injured thumb, scored a a team high 38 points and 11 boards but didn?t get enough support with only two teammates, Damian Lillard 14 pts and Matthews 11 in double figures for the Blazers. ?He?s just a great, great player, LaMarcus. His baskets, I don?t think any of them came easy. He made tough shots and good plays. The important thing was that no else hurt us. We made a great job guarding the other guys. LaMarcus got 38 but they scored 94 as a team and we?ll take that. We?ll take that.? Blatt said. The Cavaliers led for most of the game but found themselves trailing by 3, 90-87, with just 3:52 remaining in the 4th quarter after back to back 3 pointers by Aldridge and Wes Matthews. That?s when Kyrie buckled down to work and carried his team on his back scoring 10 of the last 12 points. ?It means a lot. For me, it?s just about the intensity of the game and being out there with my great teammates, and them doing a great job of getting me open and setting great screens. I?m just happy we got the win. That?s the only thing that really matters and we continue the streak. ? Kyrie said after an emotional game. GAME NOTES: Fans inside the Q witnessed a history as Kyrie broke the all-time most points scored at the Quicken Loans Arena (54 pts) previously held by former Philadelphia 76ers star point guard Allen Iverson. Lebron James was the Cavs player who had the most points scored (48) prior to last night?s game. Lebron James didn?t play due to a sprained left wrist revealaed by MRI he suffered during the game against Detroit pistons last Tuesday. Timofey Mozgov had 12 pts and 10 rebounds and Kevin Love 10 pts 12 boards for the game. Damian Lillard fondly recalls his fun and memorable experience in the Manila last summer upon learning this writer is from the Phillippines and thank his great fans and followers of his brand of play and added ?I believe there will be Filipino players in the NBA someday, they just have to continue to work hard and stay true to the game.?
