NBA -- Cavs stay hot, beat Thunder, 108-98 By Jose Carlos Monroy PhilBoxing.com Tue, 27 Jan 2015 CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Cavaliers increased their win streak to six games on Sunday, beating the Oklahoma City Thunder, 108-98, at the Quicken Loans Arena. The nationally televised game featured the two best players in the league with the four-time NBA MVP Lebron James and reigning MVP Kevin Durant going head to head. They didn?t disappoint. In the end, however, it was the King who prevailed with a game-high 34 points on 11-of-25 shooting. James also had seven boards, five assists and two blocks in 38 minutes to lead the charge for the Cavaliers. ?We?re a confident bunch, but for us, we?re a humble bunch. It?s one game versus a very experienced team, a very talented team, a very good team that?s been together for a while. We have to continue to work, continue to work our process, continue to work our habits, and we?ll give ourselves a good chance every night.? Lebron said after the game. Kevin Durant on the other hand, had 32 points, nine dimes, seven rebounds to keep his team afloat. ?We wanted to force him to be a passer, but he still made the plays. ? Cavs head coach David Blatt said of Durant's performance. The Cavs held the high scoring Thunder to 39.4 percent from the field while converting 43.9 percent of their shots. It was the seventh straight time the Cavs hit the century mark and they are now 13-0 at home when scoring at least 100 points. ?We?re getting better and better at that end (defense). All you gotta do is look at the stats and you recognize it and we must continue to do the same. If we want to grow as a team then we have to keep shoring up our defense. We got a long way to go and we have to stay humble and grow but I think we are on the right path.? The cordial coach Blatt said. GAME NOTES -- Kyrie Irving had 21 points and game-high six assists and surpassed Mo Williams for seventh place in franchise history in triples made (378). Tristan Thompson scored 10 points and grabbed season high 16 rebounds. Kevin Love 5-7 3 pt FG and 13 boards. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Jose Carlos Monroy. |
